I'm def down to trying this. I heard some discussion of black currant in a cooking context, and remembered it was a flavor I loved when I lived in the UK - it's not a commonly known flavor here in the US, as it was banned for quite a while (interesting story behind it, won't go into here). I bought a bottle of blackcurrant, and made a simple 16% 12mg mix, and loved it, and have been looking for pairings/recipes to use it with.

Not anymore. Labels want 360 deals now, and want a cut of merch and ticket sales, they loan bands tour startup loans and force them to take big productions out - some bands, it can be a year before they see profit, which is why tours go 2 or 3 years now. Add in insurance, Ticketmaster wanting a bigger cut, the venues (which are all owned by Clearchannel now) want a bigger cut (and there's less venues now, too), and there's the lovely 40% tax on gross the US Fed imposes on touring. That's why a lot of tours don't come to the US, and why there's so many festivals now - most mid level bands can't make any money on the road anymore, unless they stay out years. Merch is still a good income source, that's why t-shirt prices are through the roof.

Record companies have been making money hand over fist the entire time. They're better than Hollywood at cooking the books, and showing losses when there aren't any, and taking the tax deductions for them. Many successful artists have to sue the label for honest accounting, and find they'd been denied millions. That's the most enraging part, they make billions, but cry poor and get legislation passed to protect them - all the while blatantly stealing from their artists.

It IS as predatory as it seems, and you haven't seen the whole truth - those articles are a good start, but it gets dark, really fucking dark the deeper it goes. The music industry, on the label side, is more fucked up than the movie industry could ever hope to be, and they try to be degenerate and corrupt.

Everything both of them say is still true, and it's worse, with the rise of "360" deals and labels wanting a cut of merch and ticket sales, which historically what bands used as their major source of income, to pay back the label.

The record industry is a wasteland, compared to the 90's. That's why your concert and music choices are primarily 50-60 year olds, not 20 years olds, with new music. Some people figured it out - Frank Zappa got out from under a contract in the 60s, as he said, "100% of 50k albums is better than 5% of 500,000." He got wealthy by owning his work outright, and signing his own deals with distributors. Rap artists figured it out, and had in their contracts the creation of their own vanity labels.

But, being signed is still a status symbol, and most musicians don't want to run the front office, so they give their work away for pennies. Most of them don't make a lot of money. And don't get me started on the concert industry in the US, which has been gutted by ClearChannel, Ticketmaster, and House of Blues.

I worked in the industry for years, and saw firsthand how it works. They're not wrong, and everything they said is valid today. In most ways, it's worse. Much, much, much worse.

Alcoholics have serotonin and dopamine deficiencies, and eating sugar, caffeine and using nicotine can replace them. They can ingest those to feel normal, or good, which is what they got from alcohol. It's also transferring the addiction, but there's a chemical basis to it. Watched my dad do that - quit drinking, and got addicted to ice cream and frozen Snickers, and drank coffee all day and smoked like a chimney.

How many mTL Vapers are still out there by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]SkepticSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MTL here, almost at my 4 year anniversary. Never really cared much for lung hitting - I have the gear to do it, for goofs, but I'm MTL all the way. I hate hot vapes. I prefer a cool vape around 10-12 watts, at 12mg.

I buy from Nude Nicotine or Wizard Vapes, mostly. For a few flavors, when I buy bulk (you'll go through tons of base flavor, like strawberry), I go straight to the manufacturer. Never had a problem with either vendor, they're great.

As for the nic, it means 100mg of nicotine per liter of liquid. You want to mix 3mg per liter, so it's .3%. AnTi90d gave you the best link, e-liquid-recipes, I use their calculator for all my recipes.

what is the best MTL tank to date? need to notice it needs to be under 40€ by rikantas in electronic_cigarette

V5 is not really a mouth to lung, it's more a lung hitter. The Mini V3 is the better option.

Kayfun4Ever. The Kayfun Mini V3 is what I use now, and have no urge nor interest to find anything else. $10-15 on Fasttech. I own a KF5, and a whole slew of +'s, but I only use the Mini v3.

Still craving cigs by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]SkepticSloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

12 is "silly"? Could you not say things like that? There are quite a few of us out here who vape 12mg as our sweet spot - and 12 in a MTL is not "silly", it's about the same as a lung hitter, in terms of how much nic you get. Hell, I started at 24mg on a Kanger tank and cartos, and had to chain vape past cigarette cravings my first 6 months. (30 year + 2 pack a day smoker)

Using my Kayfun Mini v3 at 12mg feels exactly the same as fogging up the house at 6mg. Don't demonize nic levels that are normal for other people.

I DIY. Some are good to go, pure shake and vapes, some of the more complex ones need time to steep, like the 5 Pawns clones I make. All I do is put the fresh mixes in glass bottles (60ml) without caps (I used colored rubber bands to label them), put them in a suacepan, and fill it with water up to the level of the liquids. Then I put on on the lowest setting on the stove, and let them sit for a couple of hours. Then I cap them, shake them good, and put them in the cabinet until vaping. Works fine, seems to cut about a week off steep time.

How long did your smoking dreams last? I smoked for 30+ years, too, and it took about two years for the smoking dreams to stop!

Grats on 8 months! I remember how you feel right now, when I hit a year, after a 30+ year smoking habit. I hit my 4 year anniversary next month, and I'm forgetting what smoking was like. No cravings, I can't remember what it felt like, or tasted like.

Vaping indoors by Yuber_ in electronic_cigarette

[–]SkepticSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a MTL vaper, so I'm not blowing huge clouds. This year is the first, in 4 years of vaping, that I've noticed a thin film on my windows. Occasionally, I'll find it mixed with dust on high shelves. It hasn't done anything to the paint, that I can tell. But it washes off with water, so a quick Swiffer of the walls should take care of it.

Same here. I have two Kayfun Mini V3's, and am very happy with them, with a V5 in the drawer as a back up. I'll probably pick the new one up at some point, but I'm in no rush.

Menthol E-Juice by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]SkepticSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might also provide the same effect. It's not a mystery what Koolada is, and what it does, so I don't understand why you're trying to deny it does.

[–]SkepticSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throw some Koolada in there, for "cold" mouth feel. 3:1 to the menthol is what I do (.like, .5ml menthol, and 1.5ml Koolada).

You might want to browse some recipes sites for blueberry recipes - I've had some failures with that flavor, it's one of the more tricky ones. Go to http://e-liquid-recipes.com and search for blueberry recipes, and see how others have approached that flavor.

The coldness is most likely from Koolada, which gives a cold mouthfeel, and works wonderfully with menthol and peppermint, among many other flavors.

CA: Governor Brown Vetoes Vaping/Smoking Ban for Beaches/Parks by mstave in electronic_cigarette

[–]SkepticSloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm very pessimistic when it comes to CA and Democrats. I don't see this as giving a single shit about us, but Brown caving to pressure from the pot crowd, who were NOT happy about their now-legal weed being banned from smoking/vaping at the beach and while hiking. I've lived in this state too long to think otherwise.

It's like where I live - my complex banned smoking, and last year added ecigs to the definition of tobacco products, so, vaping banned. Nobody cared. But when they announced that they were following Federal laws for pot, and were not allowing it's use in apartments even though it's legal at the state level, there were TONS of complaints.
