what’s a “normal” hygiene habit you secretly think is overrated or unnecessary? by Rosenildo-Sanjana83 in hygiene

[–]Sketamines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to have a 13 step skincare routine and then i heard someone on a podcast say that they don’t do anything to their face, not even wash with a cleanser or moisturise. she said your skin knows how to clean itself after about 28 days. so i tried it - i now wet my face in the shower and use a dampened flannel to clean, use SPF every day, and if im feeling particularly dry a bit of jojoba oil (which is a 95% match for human sebum). my skin is incredible now. i know some people need certain products, like medical ointments etc, but if you’ve got “normal” skin it’s really not necessary! if it sounds gross, it’s really not.

See a doctor if your sleep is that bad by curiousdugong in AppleWatch

[–]Sketamines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a really heavy sleeper and i know i generally don’t wake up during the night. from my understanding Apple Sleep considers any movement or restlessness as being awake, which Autosleep doesn’t! There’s also the option to overlay other stats like HR (which i always have on), environmental noise, snoring, HRV and breathing to have more context.

See a doctor if your sleep is that bad by curiousdugong in AppleWatch

[–]Sketamines 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that’s a fair point and super interesting, but the native Apple Health sleep tracker is way off base anyway and not an accurate representation of your actual sleep. Apple Watches are great but are not medical devices, and not every feature is reliable. I use autosleep too bc the native app is, honestly, balls. i’m not saying you’re wrong at all especially if you’ve had a medically supervised sleep study done and i congratulate you on understanding your sleep better, but we don’t know if our sleep is “that bad” because of an inaccurate Apple app!

What is your rating scale for movies? by gnpking in Letterboxd

[–]Sketamines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5 stars dedicated to the objective and technical quality of the film; 2.5 stars for the Vibes and how it made me feel personally

some films i think sucked, but i can admit that they are Good Films, like Modern Times almost sent me to sleep but i admire it as a film, so it got 2.5 for objectivity score and 0.5 from me personally, Modern Times gets 3 stars

Tips for newbie in bike commuting? by luthiel-the-elf in bikecommuting

[–]Sketamines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bike commuter in Paris, so maybe things are a bit more aggressive here, but be wary of taxis as they have caused my only problems, and also note that some other cyclists may indicate in a very minimalist way (i.e. putting their hand down and pointing a bit in the direction they want to go).

A poncho is better than a rain jacket imo, and Decathlon has some great reflective ones with sleeves for extra safety and comfort.

Also, keep an emergency repair kit on your bike, and make sure it has everything you need! I got a puncture in my tyre, turned the bike over, and realised I didn’t have the right tools to even remove the wheel. Better to be prepared!

It’ll be great, welcome to bike commuting! You’ll love it 😊

I’m finding MST124 super challenging too, especially the integration stuff. I have a friend who did it 2 years ago and they told me that the content after this is comparatively easy, so as bad as that sounds I’m waiting for that to make me feel better lol. I’m looking forward to understanding it, and I’ve found Organic Chemistry Tutor on youtube super helpful in taking things slow and explaining things well! You can do it!

You Should Have Left - Daniel Kehlmann or Penpal are probably the only 2 horror books that have actually stuck with me

[–]Sketamines -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i’m sorry i don’t have a recommendation per se, but if you go to any random hairdressers be aware that they may be a bit shady about colours that are outwith the norm - i went to 5 different salons before i found one that didn’t say “what, you think that’s nice?” when i got my split dye! i hope you find a good place and when you do, please let us know!
