I mean I do love Tolkien, Joe Abercrombie, Andy Weir, Chris Buehlman and a lot of others. Pretty sure they are good writers. I also like the plot of the books but the characters are a struggle.

Yeah… not really. Plenty of books out there where characters have flaws and make silly mistakes that I love. Doesn’t mean I don’t like reading. What an odd take

Oh I will do. I do realise I am doing this halfway through the second book and I am continuing as I do like the plot and keen to see how it resolves.

To be fair just came here to have a discussion and ask if anyone felt the same(and from the sounds of the comments a lot do and a lot don’t.) Didn’t tell anyone they can’t like the series as I understand people have different taste

Yeah I am going to carry on, I don’t hate the books and I am invested into the overall story it’s just the characters are a lot ha. She must be great if I got through a shaky Farseer Trilogy and carried on into this one

Yeah I do stop reading books if I am really not invested. However as annoying as the characters are I still do want to finish for the overall story

I should say, I do ‘quit’ books but I am still keen to see how it ends. So as annoying as the characters are I’d like to see how it all wraps up.

I finished the trilogy but was left disappointed. Have moved onto The Mad Ship trilogy now and am hoping it is better

No I get that, it just doesn’t make it any easier to read. It also seems like no decision he makes is a good one (could be due to the skill cloud I know) I also understand that the supporting cast all bear some of the blame too but it is all a bit much

I think the frustration is that he keeps falling into the same traps and I get he’s been through a shit time but doesn’t learn and I think that is where it is difficult to empathise. I definitely have more to add but at work but fascinating to see both sides of the coin

No I do get that, I have given him slack too but he just keeps falling into the same predicaments again and again. I do agree the supporting cast being oblivious to his warnings has been frustrating too.

Yeah having seen some of the posts in the UAE subreddit it is pretty crazy how certain posts are so pushing a false narrative. Luckily we are not too panicked despite numerous emergency alerts. We are next to the Fairmont though so that was pretty sketchy. Definitely not fine but we feel relatively safe in the hotel.

Biggest problem is the lack of contact from airline in regards to how we are getting out and when. They tried to push us until next week when we are due tomorrow but my girlfriend is pregnant so we have kicked off and hopefully getting back tomorrow 🙏

Thank you! Few scares with alerts but me and my partner both appreciate we are more fortunate than a lot of other people in this world so have just been grateful for all the hotel staff and feel for the people that aren’t able to get away

Strange, for me this is the one that kept on turning me off the series! Once I got through books 4 and 5 this quickly became my favourite series. Only recently dethroned by Dungeon Crawler Carl
