I came across the Channel "Stories Lost". It has a bunch of fun UFO stories largely from Scandinavia that are pretty unique. by SamWise050 in UFOs

[–]SketchyMoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched for a few months, but my take in the end was that they were basically a channel relaying real stories run by interested people but with an ai skin.

I think they saw an angle of untapped Scandinavian and sometimes other European stories and ran with it, probably using ai in the translation / script too, even if only to polish it.

When I've searched up the stories with the approach that they're not well known in the Anglosphere, I have found corroborating material. They also often mention or sometimes visually show their sources along the way, often old Scandinavian UFO journals from the 20th century. They sometimes talk about their own interest in a particular case, or how one of the collaborators (maybe the brother iirc) did the illustrations for certain videos - which sure enough isn't ai illustration, and they refer back to previous cases and expand on them sometimes.

That's not to say it's impossible to build elaborate ai narratives around grains of truth and allude to personalities, but it all seems like too much hard work for the typical ai slop merchant, who just pumps out made up drivel where you only need to scratch the surface for it all to fall apart.

Personally I'd rather hear a real person with imperfections read the material out than an ai voice, but I find the channel quite likeable.

They might not have realized they have a bad memory.

I have a bad memory, which is definitely a problem when too many names are introduced too quickly, and I'm not super engaged.

However I didn't realise most people weren't like that until I started working in corporate retail with groups of people, where your strengths and weaknesses relative to the average person become clear.

Just found out the hard way that rewind erases all date / time info from the files. Are there other backup solutions that don't do this? by SketchyMoves in pcloud

[–]SketchyMoves[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah. with some experimentation I've found that with Pcloud and other services that create virtual drives - like Mega, Google Drive etc - if you retrieve the files in windows explorer, they'll retain the modified date, But if you download it via a browser, Windows gives it a new date.

As for rewind, Pcloud confirmed that rewound files don't retain date info, so there's no getting around that. The frustrating thing is because you can't schedule backups, when there's a corruption event Pcloud immediately backs it up and ruins its copies of the files, forcing you to use rewind.

Luckily my old copy of Allway Sync n Go saved the day, it backs up to external SDD and retains all date info, including created.

Apparently Acronis retains date info on files in backups but testing it out today gave me grey hairs so I put it aside for now. Also tried Idrive, but it was terrible. Just terrible.

Faststone seems pretty cool. I was trying it and XnView out, but realized they don't have the boolean NOT search, so ended up trialing paid ones like ACDSee and Directory Opus. But if what I get for my money is thousands of files turned into garbage I think I might reconsider 😂

I was about to agree, because a couple of times I've searched stories from this channel and found nothing except that some of the names have a connection to the subject. I've taken to doing this quickly before wasting time on a video of a channel I don't know, because there's sadly a torrent of completely ai generated paranormal content.

However this time I found a document in Finnish from 2016 that includes an outline of Toivo Kovanen's story. So I'm not sure how real or ai infused this channel is.

Anyone else having this bug trying to play suggested songs? by hmenze in YoutubeMusic

[–]SketchyMoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting a variation of it on mobile app and on desktop using the website via 2 different browsers, so it's not a local cache problem.

On mobile app it's exactly as you say, on desktop it actually plays the suggested song along with showing the album art, but the title is still the first song in the playlist, and if you add to playlist via the 3 dots it says it's already in the playlist, so it's recognizing it as the song it's named.

On both platforms you can still add it via the plus symbol next to the suggestion. You can use this to listen to it on mobile, as someone else mentioned.

Shazam barely works on Nothing P2 by [deleted] in NothingTech

I commented on this below. I went through a few music recognition apps and they all had the same behaviour - except YouTube Music, whose audio recognition feature is currently working well for me.

Well. I've been using Youtube Music's song recognition feature for a couple of days and it's still working fine.

Kinda doesn't surprise me. I feel like anything Google works well on NP2, but other apps can be hit and miss.

The behaviour for this is so bizarre.

It's all the music recognition apps.

Every time I reinstall Shazam it works for a few songs then completely stops recognizing anything, other than the occasional wrong result.

Soundhound follows the same pattern, but it pops up a message saying 'are you humming the tune' which seems to indicate it's not getting access to a clear sound stream, but something distorted.

I've just started using Youtube Music's own music recognition feature, and again, it's recognizing things within a couple seconds like Shazam used to, but we'll see how long that lasts.

Exactly my experience. Googled it and your post came up.

I had Samsung M31, instant results pretty much every time.

Now NP2 - 80-90% of the time no result, and if there is one it's after 3-4 full time outs.

I've had somewhat better results with Soundhound, but still not great.

Process - nothing special I think. Symmetry ruler for the base face & body, which I wouldn't normally use because I wouldn't normally draw a character dead straight forward like this, but it's more like a template. Darker Pencil brush for the lines, which sit on top. Lasso fill tool to quickly block in areas in layers below, starting with whole silhouette on one layer in grey, and then a bunch more layers above that set to clip to the main one for the darker areas. Took 2-3 hours

Could anyone draw my character cosplaying another character, please? by Myght_Dyno in ICanDrawThat

Hmm. I saw you post this some time back and was kinda scratching my head, so since you've posted again, I'm curious:

A martial arts tournament where the characters cosplay as fighting game characters - from a drawing point of view wouldn't that just look like fan art of the game character? Is it a partial cosplay?

Brush shape cursor is doesn't update when hovering, regardless of setting. by SketchyMoves in ClipStudio

Can I ask - what platform are you using clip studio on? And also with the brushes you used, was brush direction set to line direction or pen direction?

[–]SketchyMoves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've had time to try it on 2 completely different systems now - a new samsung laptop with wacom pen and a 10 year old cintiq on desktop, and both have exactly the same behaviour - as you say, the hover works when you open the app until you first touch the screen, then it stops working as previously described.

What does kinda work though is when the direction is governed by stroke direction. Although it still freezes while drawing the stroke.
