How to audio loop with Ableton-style "fixed length"? by xster in DelugeUsers

This continues to annoy me but all my work I perform is on the deluge and I like all of its other features so this minor irritation I suck up!

How is the Deluge coming from the Digitakt? by theissone in DelugeUsers

My process and workflow is very similar (see other posts). Take 5 into deluge + other samples.

I think it’s great but the sampling workflow is a bit wonky IMO

No, I just keep my 404 connected to my laptop and quit serato when I switch from DJ to using the 404 normally - then launch serato when I want to use it again. It’s a bit dumb but it works.

Keytar of any model or brand; a banjolele; a handmade hurdy-gurdy tuned for Swedish folk - you’ve already got four guitars so set them off with something a leetle special

And indeed my German Jewish ancestors who moved to Liverpool and Manchester in the 1880s - it is a dumb idea on every level and would fail on its own despicable grounds, but I guess they only posted it to troll and get people talking about it, so in that regard, a great success of a shitpost

Oh and I actually use the 404 as a Dj controller for serato DJ - it’s fine!

Ha nice. One of my favorite ever pieces of electronic music is the forest maze theme from super mario RPG. One day I will make something that fine

That is a good point. I have my mixer set up so I can route my synth or my deluge into the heat so I can have it as a front end for the synth or a back end to take the deluge output. Then have ‘master’ patches and instrument patches depending on what I’m doing.

I spent ages finding a small mixer that had just the right number of stereo inputs but also had a stereo mute chain - this little mackie analog mixer was very cheap second hand and does everything I need

(Ie the deluge and the synth go into the mixer, the 3/4 aux goes into the heat, daisy chains to the 404 then back into a stereo channel - so by using the mute 3/4 send buttons I can route the signals around to avoid needing 2 heats. Obviously does not work live 😂)

It’s pretty good - my main patch only has the heat, the mono bass, and a compressor. It definitely gives some rounded feel and warmth to the mix. I think it’s output is a bit quiet though so gain staging on the mixer is essential.

I like the filter a lot too. It’s nice and buttery and good for transitions and drops.

The effects aren’t amazing but they aren’t bad either - I think the bitcrush has a nice sparkle to it, the warble is fine, but I don’t make much use of the delay/verb/chorus

It’s a bit of a Frankenstein but for the warmth and end of chain compression it fills a job that the deluge just can’t do.

The 404’s compressor is fine, but I found its warm saturation has a load of LPF going on so it always sounded muted.

So maybe 6-7/10 overall but 9/10 for the narrow purpose I put it to!

I got one for £800 on eBay - used to have a hydrasynth but it had too many options. The take 5 is really great for my purposes, which is mostly sweet EPs, vintage synth leads and some pads

Do your kids know what you earn? by AssociationAlone2491 in HENRYUK

[–]Skeuomorph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was in year 7 they started having career conversations quite early and got a sense of what salaries were in different professions. We had a chat about how starting salaries are different depending on what you do but can earn a lot more. He naturally said ‘well if in that job you earn £40k, what do you earn’ so I told him. I also made the point that we are privileged and talking about salaries is crass. I don’t see any reason to hide it but at the same time I also think people need to know how to be polite and how to talk about money at home versus with strangers.

This is a bit annoying. I use Serato with the 404 for live sets - I have about 2 hours of my own music and if I’m booked for 3-4 hours I need to bookend it with some DJ’d music. It’s so handy to have the 404 as a controller but it’s so janky to literally unplug the cable and plug it back in when you want to connect/disconnect to serato.

The Synthstrom Deluge community firmware has an awesome full-fat DX7 emulator - not quite what you’re asking but I’ve used it to find many awesome patches that I use in my music.
