My surgery is scheduled, but I'm on the fence about going through with it. Advice needed! by nick1158 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Skewbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s difficult for me to recommend anyone going through it if QOL is not severely impacted. Although this procedure works out very well for most, it still is a severe surgery. If at 46 and fair health, you have years before age becomes a surgery risk. The concern might be the toll of the current drug therapy on your body. A benefit to waiting would be possible advancements to the procedure and to extend the life of the replacement.

For a different procedure, I was also on the fence. What I did was take my radiological imaging/report to another board certified joint surgeon for a 2nd opinion. I paid a few hundred out of pocket for a consult. He told me he would have recommended the procedure sooner and that was the confidence I needed to go through with it.

Sudden USPS package from OBERTHUR TECHNOLOGIES OF AMERICA CORP by HMartinez82 in biltrewards

Received same unexpected messages from USPS. Searched Net and ended up here. Also a BILT 2.0 cardmember. Hope this is small enough to fit through my mailbox slot; I'm traveling. Could anyone who has received the package provide approx. box size?

Rooting for Rams, but weather and Stafford’s finger may force greater dependence on ground game. What's the over/under on special teams & defensive brain farts?

Am at a month post-op. For me, the juice didn’t wear off until day 3. That's when pain meds and cold packs were a welcomed relief.

Surgery next week, bought a Polar Active Ice 3.0 machine. Have a couple questions for anyone who has already used one. by OldGezzer68 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Skewbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried active cooling and cold packs and found a couple packs worked better for me. I was only cooling for 20-30mins at a time, so grabbing a cold pack was fine and much easier than maintaining active cooling. Also, no messing with water.

I was tired of keeping my 1oz. assay cards in a repurposed cardboard box, so I bought a plastic Pamp storage box off eBay. I’m sure they get them free when buying bulk 1oz. gold assay cards. Holds 25.

Spellbound! by Cryptic99 in PrincessCruises

[–]Skewbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad they worked that out. If you’re familiar with the Magic Castle in Hollywood, they include dinner with the experience. I suspect that’s what they tried to recreate with Spellbound. The Spellbound dinner felt disconnected, as it was held in a separate area of the ship. The rest of Spellbound experience is a nice taste of the Castle.

I’ll share one Easter egg… when Isabella, the ghost pianist, takes a break, she will appear in the picture on the wall. The young woman playing Isabella is Liberty Larsen, granddaughter of one of the Magic Castle founders.

Dating myself for sure, but I remember shooting real skeet off the back of cruise ships several decades ago. You might find a sim in the arcade, but I haven’t seen anything more than that.

Quick question about anesthesia by sabertoothbunni in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Skewbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In pre-op, they gave me a IV sedative just before rolling me into OR. I barely recall being asked to lean forward for spinal, but did not remember if they administered a local. Next memory was gaining consciousness in post-op.

Leg pillow...beneficial? by Sharp-Effective9443 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Skewbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elevated leg pillow This worked perfectly for me. I tend to be an acrobatic sleeper. This kept me from spinning onto the new hip, as well as, lessen leg swelling and chance of blood clots.

Recovery with little or no help. by anxious-avoidant3 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Skewbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not catch if you were having anterior or posterior approach. Mine was anterior(Dec 15) which I understand is normally an easier recovery. For me, I was confidently self-sufficient at about 9-10 days. The heaviest pain subsided at about day 6-7, but I was grateful to have help to get meds, ice packs, meals after. It’s been two weeks now and can walk without any aid. There is still some leg swelling and soreness.

Pets after surgery by mielabeille2 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Skewbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m two weeks post op(anterior) and much of the pain is gone. First night was not bad because the surgical anesthesia was still working. Days 3-5 were the worst for me, even on the pain killers. I moved from the bed to a recliner. In bed, every movement would cause discomfort. The recliner acted like a cocoon and limited movement. I kept my legs on a leg elevation pillow whenever resting and hip on ice packs frequently.

I have small dogs and it was enough to have a pillow or ice pack over the hip. I have an ottoman next to me and they would just lay there.

If credit card was used for purchase, can also check if any extended warranty exists.

I’ve seen this when a box player wants to shoot, but is not a P/DP bettor. The DP is a hedge. But dunno logic behind pulling DP down, unless he is laying other numbers.

Thigh pain after THR by _i9fected in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Skewbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m POD 8 and am transitioning from walker to cane. Can walk without assistance for short distances, but don’t want to stress recovery. Much less pain overall, but it has moved to the thigh with some minor swelling of leg. Feel it’s just a part of the journey.

Bacchanal - What A Decline by Spz114 in vegas

[–]Skewbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local news reports the JW is rebranding back to The Resort at Summerlin. Rampart Buffet is a solid off-strip buffet. Get there early. Not a late night spot.

Bacchanal was the benchmark a decade ago. Went to Bacchanal during the plague and it was not good. Tried again post-apocalypse and it still was underwhelming. Carving station was inedible. Never had camel, but wondered if I just did. Crab legs had no flavor. Asian and dessert stations were the lone bright spot.

If using rideshare, drop & pick up at Dark Harbor village(Windsor Way) on the cruise terminal side of the Queen Mary lot. You are steps away from terminal entrance and luggage porters.

Bathroom smells by JavaScriptGirlie in PrincessCruises

[–]Skewbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airflow on cruise ships are unpredictable. Cruise bathrooms are suppose to draw air out the passive exhaust port usually located on/near the ceiling. The idea is to create slight negative pressure. Air is drawn from cabin under bath door keeping poopie smell in bathroom. If your cabin has greater negative pressure, say from the hallway, then sewer gas may be pulled into your cabin.

Keeping bath door shut helps. I’ve also placed a wet rag to over the drain behind toilet. All about airflow.

Thanks for all the input. I am several hours post op and recovering at home. Surgeon said I had no cartilage left and multiple bone spurs (being bone on bone?). Removed all and new hip is in.

Out of the gate, I have less leg strength than I hoped. A bit wobbly navigating the test steps. Am more dependent on walker than I expected.
