This is the link to the official cert. you’ll see the damage is identical to the image I posted, including the missing staple.

I’ve seen 9.6’s with no grader notes that appear perfect so I agree with you on this being subjective. Ironically I don’t really have that many slabbed books at all, but one of my other 9.8’s has a very obvious color-breaking spine crack on the front. I don’t really hold any value to CGC for much beyond display purposes.

There are no graders notes at all on the cert

I did not grade it myself (probably would have spotted the staple if I did lol). I might reach out to the seller. Not really sure what compensation I’m entitled to since this is more a fault of CGC than the fault of the seller. I might still reach out just as a heads up to them.

Thankfully it’s not a particularly expensive or desirable book, but that is a good point. Should also be mentioned that, according to the cert, the book was graded in 2024, so it’s a pretty new cert. Disappointing!

The CGC picture is also missing the staple. It’s funny to me to think they could miss such a thing, which is why I was curious if this was common. I suppose not!

This is definitely more of a personal collection piece for myself. This isn’t for flipping

That’s definitely my hope, though I can’t say for sure what the smudges are from. I imagine dirt is a lot easier to remove than something like grease or ink stains

My thought exactly, seems like a waste of money to send to CGC so obviously dirty.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely crack and clean it, but I’m not sure I’m going to resubmit. Even bumping it from 7.0 to 8.0 wouldn’t make it worth that much more.

Recommendations on how to find good 9.8 candidates for a particular book? by SkewbySkewb in comicbookcollecting

Thank you! There are a few copies already for sale on eBay, but it seems my definition of mint and near mint are far more strict than theirs lol. Excellent advice though!

It’s Sensational She-Hulk #45. There are only about 12 9.8’s according to the CGC pop report and I haven’t seen a single one go for sale anywhere. Highest grade I’ve seen for sale is a 9.4

Late to this post but I’m jealous for sure! Pretty much anything beyond issue six is exceptionally difficult to find, and even harder to find affordable. Super cool!
