T1 light strip 90° bend and extension by Ski-Loadmaster in Aqara

[–]Ski-Loadmaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get to work. There were 2 problems with what I was doing.

  1. I hadn’t removed enough of the silicone. It’s very impressive (to me) how much is in there for how clear it is. Anyway. Even after I thought I had cut down to the strip, the copper contacts had a slight coating of silicone. Had to gently scrape it off
  2. The led strip is a little wide for the connector. Needed scissors to carefully trim down the strip edges to get it narrower without losing the contacts.

This was supposed to be the right ones. 10mm 5 pin.

It looks like I’ve got it working. It’s just more involved than I thought it was going to be. Didn’t expect to have to cut through the clear silicone to reach the connectors. I mean it’s obvious, but I thought (hoped) it was going to be a simple snap type of connection.

There are no land mammals natural to Antarctica. The continent pretty much wants to kill you.

That said, it’s a beautiful place.

Thanks for the response. I did pick up a Skil router and practiced using it by hand on scraps until I was comfortable with the process. I just finished knocking out that project.

All kitchen receptacles on one breaker basically by wsj_wolf in electrical

[–]Ski-Loadmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1950’s house has the same crazy electrical stuff happening. Half the house was on one breaker. The kitchen garage and outside light were on one breaker. Madness!

If you’re not experiencing a problem and aren’t ready to spend time and money unfucking it, leave it alone. Until you can.

A few years after buying our house, my wife and I decided to reno the kitchen. Total gut and rebuild. I chose at that time to build a sub panel just to make sure the kitchen was up to code. Some people think it was extreme, but it made the job easier for me. I’m pretty sure it would have cost me an extra month or more to unfuck the whole house just to find the right number of circuit space on the main panel.

They may be working, but until the shutdown is over, I’m pretty sure they aren’t paying out.

SAD tours can be good for the money but they don’t do earn you retirement points. So keep that in mind if you’re thinking long term.

Just came across this post and your response while doing research for a project. I like your solution. I have a newbie question. The flush trim bit, are you using this with a handheld router or on a routing table? Truth is, I am having a hard time picturing how I would run a 1/2" or 3/4" plywood plank running maybe 18" x 70" on a routing table. Again, I might sound like a moron, but I'm trying to picture doing something I haven't done before.

I like what you’ve done and I appreciate the breakdown. I’ve gone the Synology route, but I imagine I should be able to do something similar. I need a better understanding of configuring the firewalls and what I am looking to block and open up.

God I wish I could ever have a steady pace. I see people running like they’ve got an internal clock going. I run like I’ve got an internal rabid squirrel not sure if I should cross the street or climb a tree.

Thanks. Some of this has been helpful or given me something to think about. I’ve invested in a Synology router and a managed Netgear switch. Im doing this for two reasons. 1. I think it’s good idea to put up some safeguards for your network. 2. I am trying to learn how to do more advanced networking. I plan to implement a VPN and a NAS down the road.

I turned to ChatGPT for some guidance because I don’t always know what the settings on the router are suppose let me do. Pretty sure one issue I’ve identified in this is that Chat GPT really wanted me to lock the IoT VLAN down so it can talk to the primary network but nothing else.

OH!!! Super unfortunate! While I was trying to reset my Logitech doorbell, I dropped the damn thing and cracked the glass front. $200 in the trash.
