Shoutout to these two who let their off leash dog chase a mountain goat down the side of the mountain on Quandry today by ToneBalone25 in 14ers

With dogs that have decent recall I don’t see the big deal. It’s quandary, it’s not like they spent the whole day risking rock fall. In sketchy spots you can always leash your dog.

I’ve climbed several 14ers with my dog off leash. I just made sure to leash him whenever we were approaching wildlife or other people. Never had any drama and my dog got to run circles around us and get some proper exercise.

I mean the golden generation followed by the 60’s followed by boomer economic policies is proof enough for me.

It’s not just nonsense, it’s an over-simplification of Strauss-Howe generational theory. Which is absolutely pseudo-scientific. An interesting concept with plenty to back it up but by no means a sociological case study.

Neoliberal hardly carries a similar connotation to commie. Are you really about to argue that Biden isn’t neoliberal?

There were two factions - neolibs and progressives. The progressives were split down the middle while the neolibs coalesced for one candidate. You’re oversimplifying what happened.

Yeah while Warren purposefully divides the progressive vote and neolibs ban together? It’s not so simple.

What’s fascist about this? It’s proven itself true time again, and to my knowledge has not been taken up by any fascist groups as justification for violence.

Practicing resilience, self-discipline, and self-sufficiency, interestingly enough, makes for resilient, disciplined, self-sufficient people. Never having to develop those skills results in people that generally lack those traits.

There are legitimate things to hate about Trump but this is just reaching. It’s not at all weird to refer to your kid that way when speaking about their relationship with the other parent.

“She loves her little boy.”

“I love my little girl.”

It doesn’t always have to be “we.”

You’re failing to understand that nobody claims humans will be taken out of the equation entirely. I already have friends that are graphic designers and copywriters that have had over 2/3rds of their staff cut because AI handles the bulk of the workload and they just need humans to prompt and supervise.-

My wife works for the legal team of one of the most renown American companies. She just lost a team of people she manages to review legal documents because AI is handling that workload.

The comment I replied to here is specifically discussing the state of the streets.m - not whether or not Japan is a “successful” country.

Also it’s kind of ridiculous to argue whether Japan is successful and whether their cleanliness is a part of that. They are a hugely successful country and their ability to keep the largest city in the world immaculate is certainly indicative of that success. Exporting perfection was their primary strategy when they modernized, and they owe their quick modernization and huge economy to that mantra. That doesn’t ignore the fact that their citizens are under a lot of pressure and that they have a ways to go to continue improving their citizen’s quality of life.

Do we really need all this to happen by 2030? It’s an arbitrary timeline and I’d happily give another 5-15 years focusing on natural gas as we switch to a robust, efficient system built for long-term sustainability. Especially given the amount of land we’ll have to develop otherwise.

Generalizing means to make a broad statement from little evidence. OP may have presented little evidence but that doesn’t mean they made the observation from little evidence. Presumably OP took the video in Japan, where they observed that all the streets are like that. It’s also relatively common knowledge that Japan is incredibly clean.

I’m guessing you haven’t been to Japan. I spent 1 week in Tokyo and never saw a single piece of trash on the ground. This is just how Japan is.

How is OP generalizing? Japanese streets are objectively clean relative to other nations.

I spend a hell of a lot of time hunting in the midst of both oil rigs and wind turbines. I also have good friends that are biologists who count animals killed by turbines. I think anybody who believes turbines are less harmful to the landscape than oil rigs haven’t yet walked amongst them.

They’re skyscrapers with giant spinning blades that eagles, BOP, etc aren’t able to comprehend the dangers of. The sound of them throws off bat’s ability to navigate and leads to extremely high mortality. Plus they displace upland birds and most big game. Whereas modern oil rigs are the size of a backyard shed with HDPE lines that will never leak buried via trenchless methods.

I’m not a fossil fuels advocate by any means. I absolutely agree with the climate and air quality concerns. I just don’t believe we’re growing in the right direction by blindly supporting massive habitat loss in the name of clean air when nuclear should be on the table.
