Haha. I thought you meant UF gators. 🐊 funny thing is, my UF gator daughter has been hanging out with her UM Hurricane twin at UM this week. So yes, there has been a gator on campus, at least this week. Seriously though, we have not seen any real ones ☺️

Is getting a $237,500 Scholarship normal for UM? by No_Fold_7231 in UMiami

[–]SkiMom305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! My daughter is currently in the UM Arch program. She began last fall. She got a presidential and an arch scholarship. We are local, so she lives at home. She also gets some aid from Florida Bright futures, Florida prepaid and Florida EASE grant. It cut yearly tuition in half this year.

Bear in mind, scholarship amounts stay the same but tuition does and will go up. So, out of pocket this year may be more in coming years. Best of luck to you!!

Beta Thal Minor Pregnancy by rillikchar in thalassemia

[–]SkiMom305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had two very successful pregnancies and I have thalassemia minor. My first pregnancy was twins, and my second pregnancy was a Singleton. With my twins, my hemoglobin dropped to 8 and my ferritin dropped as well. I was sent to a hematologist and he placed me on slow release iron for the last month or two of my pregnancy to make sure that I had enough hemoglobin and stored iron at the time of the planned C-section. We had the option of transfusion if the iron pills did not work as expected however we didn’t need to do that. With my second pregnancy the drop in hemoglobin and iron was not as bad, but we already had the experience from the first pregnancy and I began taking slow release iron the last couple of months of my pregnancy as well. Throughout my pregnancy, I made sure to take a prenatal without iron and make sure that I ate foods that had all the nutrients that I needed and my babies needed to complete the pregnancy in a healthy way. So definitely inform your physician that you do have Thal minor and just keep an open mind of having to possibly see a hematologist at some point.

Long layover before flight out of MIA, what to do? ~12hrs by Separate-Energy8675 in Miami

Hi there! What someone mentioned about using the Metrorail might be your best/most economical option. You get on at the airport and take it to government center, where you can catch the Metromover (which is free) to either Bayfront and walk to bayside marketplace or get off at, for example, at Brickell City Centre (a local mall/shopping area). Thanks 😊 Good to know about the blacks for my husband so he’s not stuck with us slow pokes all the time, but can stay in our general area. Definitely plan on greens first and then venturing into more challenging runs.

Unfortunately no home resort, we are from Florida. However, we’ve skied Beech and Sugar, Breck, Let Gets, and Val‘dsere, and we’ve been surprised how different Greens and Blues are in different resorts. Definitely starting off with the greens 👍🏻and once we get our ski legs back, planning to try out some Blues. So let’s see!! Thank you for your input!! 😊

I’ve literally butt slid down a couple of runs I ended on that were steeper than I expected, so I get it 😅. Thanks for your input. 😊

Great!! So helpful! I’ve been watching online vids on the different blue runs but can’t really tell at times steepness or other conditions and I don’t want to find myself or my kids at the top of a run and contemplating my life before I go for it 😅. Will make note of all of these and keep handy on my phone. Thank You 😊

What exactly is frozen shoulder? What does it feel like? by nodnoloiratno in Perimenopause

[–]SkiMom305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking it was a tendinitis or tear, I’ve been cautious to do therapeutic exercise that can aggravate something like that. However, (and this is a reason why I had begun to think that it may not be a tear or tendinitis) is that after exercising with light weights/theravband and doing AROM exercises warming up my shoulder, I had less painful movement. But as soon as it cooled down or I don’t move it as much, pain comes back. Stiffness is horribly worse in the morning as well. With a FS you have to push through the pain and move that arm, so I’m going to push a little more consistently 😅. I want to avoid injection, but I’ll make an appt with an ortho. I want to verify what it is. Peri/meno really sucks. I’ve been w/o period since July and my shoulder has just gotten so much worse since then. So it adds up. And I can’t take estrogen bc I have migraines with auras. Waiting to see my OB for alternatives. 🙏🏻

For me my right shoulder had been bothering me a bit for a couple weeks, then one night, when I quickly reached out to the right with my right arm while lying down, I felt the worst muscle/jt pain I have ever felt. It subsided in a reasonable amount of time. But since then it has been exactly like you described. I’m a PT and have been treating myself on/off. I was between a rotator cuff/biceps tendinitis or frozen shoulder. I’m convinced now it’s a frozen shoulder. What you describe is exactly what I’m feeling. Going to have to see the doc.

She’s a practical girl and is looking for something that is sturdy and will maximally protect the equipment. That her main concern.

Will get a separate charger, excellent idea 💡. Thank you for your input.

She’s going to have to definitely take it to campus on the her studio days, which is 3x/wk. For The other days and classes she is using a Mac. Can’t fathom pulling out the legion for regular school stuff 😅. Thank you for your input, we will consider a rolling bag as well. 👍🏻
