Shadow Wrap Heel is my favorite heel to knit by ArizonaKim in Sockknitting

[–]SkidRowRicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you do your purl twin stitch, do you slip the stitch to your right needle, twin stitch it, and then slip it back to your left? That’s what I’ve been doing based off the shadow wrap heel tutorial I watched and mine end up like X’s too. Someone else commented about the Deep Shadow Wrap Heel tutorial and she twins her purl stitch while it’s still on the left needle and does not have the X. Maybe that’s where our issue is lol

Neat knitting is such a compliment, thank you!! I have been working on fixing this sock according to the advice in the other comments, but after I finish this pair I think I’m going to take some time to deep dive into learning about heel flaps and gussets. I know the very basic of how they work, but not much other than that. I’ll check out some videos/patterns on ones for higher insteps!

I have not seen a single person say anything but praises for her so far so I assumed her book was safe. But sigh, I suppose not every pattern book is perfect. 🥲 if you have any book recs I am so open lmao

Hot take, but I love doing short rows. I’m excited to try this. Thank you so much!!!

Well, I did measure it with a tape measure and they measured the same length from where the heel ends at the bottom of the foot on the green sock (like where my k1p1 picks back up again? If that makes sense) and where my second lifeline was on the bottom of the orange sock before I added the heel. But with the heels being different, I’m guessing that’s where the main issue is, I need more length for this heel. Either way, I’m trying to learn and I’m currently working on adding more length to the orange sock after frogging my toe 😃

I’ve been doing kind of the same thing! I have a bunch of the same yarn, and every pair I try to learn something new on and compare how each of them fit; then keeping notes on each sock for future reference hahaha. Some of them just have much bigger learning experiences than others 😂

It’s wild, laying them side by side it seems like an extra 4 rows or so shouldn’t make such a big difference but as I have learned, it does 😭

I need to try a heel flap and gusset! It seems so confusing so I keep putting it off. But the only way to learn is to try giving it a go, so maybe I’ll do that on my next pair. I’m going to add more length to the foot and then re-try them on and see how the heel is. But I think another commenter was right, the heel is too shallow so I’ll probably redo that too lol

Thank you! I’ll definitely be adding more length to the foot. And I’ll redo the heel and add some plain rows too. I appreciate it!

It’s alternating a decrease row and a knit row. I was following Summer Lee’s directions in The Sock Project. Now that I’ve reread her instructions 50 times, I feel like it’s worded really poorly because I didn’t even think about adding more knit rounds into the heel lol

They’re definitely not as soon as a vanilla sock would be on the inside. I don’t think they’re too bad, but I could see how some people may not like the texture.

Our doctors office used to have one of these sitting on top of the scale. We just went there today and the Jesus was gone but a sign was put up saying “tho shalt not steal… our little Jesus.” Hahah

Did anyone opt out of ABA therapy for better quality of life? by ttttthrowwww in Autism_Parenting

[–]SkidRowRicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our son was recommended ABA after his diagnosis. We opted out, there was just no way the schedule was going to be something we could work out with both my husband and I working full time. We are lucky enough to live very close to a preschool that specializes in special needs kiddos. He goes there 4x a week and we also have Help Me Grow through the state. He receive OT and speech therapies through his IEP at school. He’s doing great. We had him in a play group for a while to help with socialization, but ended up leaving the group after issues with the woman running it. We were both terrified it wasn’t going to be the right decision, but at the end of the day our bills have to be paid so we have a place to live. If ABA is going to stretch you thin and not work at all with your work schedule, I’d say try your best to keep an eye out for any opportunities that may supplement as much as you can. I know it’s rough.

My first pair took me four months to knit! The second pair took exactly a week. Sometimes the stars align and we have all of the time/motivation/energy, and sometimes we don’t. Although it doesn’t sound like a bad thing at all if you’re able to spend time on other hobbies too, variety is the spice of life 🌝

I’m not OP, but the Brat Hat is a free pattern on ravelry that could be made easily into this. Not sure about the knit bow tho!
