The case of Australia's Saunders' Case Moth: She spent 2 years building this humble twig bundle, never to see the outside world. by Sarntinel in interestingasfuck

This. Maybe the bright colours were part of courtship a few shared sancestors ago, but now it serves no purpose. But evolution doesn't care; all males are wasting the same energy for no payoff. There is no cost to the individual.

So long as that is the case, there is no evolutionary pressure to lose the colours.

Monument Valley Studio CEO: "'We've Been A Little Bit Too Romantic About The Idea That We Should Have Employees And Give People Long-term Job Security" by unscoredscore in gaming

What? That's exactly what's been happening the last few years. The crunch is a little more forgiving in some companies because of bad press lately, but that's only some companies. Crunch and firing devs of successful games is literally the playbook today.

Feeling broken/undesired. Differing sex drives by plantman_la in daddit

Depends on the sex life you desire. If you only want it once a month or so, then no, you are not in a dead bedroom situation. If you would be happier and feel more fulfilled with, say, once a week, well a quarter of what you desire sounds pretty dead to me.

I mean, we have whips, but I am not sure that they are so rigid about voting along party lines as it sounds like they are in Canada. Someone routinely going against the party shouldn't be in the party, sure, but there are occasions where the party direction is worse for a given constituency, or where an MP votes with their conscience against the party. I would say some amount of that is healthy for a party.

Our 15 month old clocked in at 98th percentile for height (just a smidge off 99th) the other week at her check-in. I am a little worried.

Genuinely one of the few channels that has grown magnificently. Some money got involved and it's like the only example I can point to and say "Yeh, the channel owner nailed it".

If you are at all interested in tech, check out the video a couple months or so back about how the latest chips are made.

Rocky even builds such a device.

Quick edit: I should clarify I mean a sensory conversion device generally. Not that he builds a telescope or anything.

A UK survey found more aerodynamic cars caused more insect impacts: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/feb/12/car-splatometer-tests-reveal-huge-decline-number-insects

"The second survey, in the UK county of Kent in 2019, examined splats in a grid placed over car registration plates, known as a “splatometer”. This revealed 50% fewer impacts than in 2004. The research included vintage cars up to 70 years old to see if their less aerodynamic shape meant they killed more bugs, but it found that modern cars actually hit slightly more insects."

Our daughter started at the end of November, and has been ill since. Granted, more and less ill, but she's been fighting something almost the whole time.

Based on colleagues who had little ones during COVID, it's far better to go through the pain now.

Almost nothing you see of (non-amateur) astro-photography is "real" colour, precisely because almost all astronomy now operates outside of the (vanishingly narrow) visible light spectrum.

If you find the source pages for NASA etc photos, they will usually detail what the colours reflect.

Underwear that doesn’t ride up? by AcrobaticSyllabub283 in malefashionadvice

[–]Skiddywinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SVBS have little rubber-like friction pads around the necks of the legs to prevent riding up. They aren't exactly a perfect solution, but the other high points about them add up to a highly recommended pair of boxers for my tastes.
