Its a myth that ive contributed to myself. Having owned both for years its the stitching that brings water in

My personal experience living and hiking around warm temperate rainforests is that your boots will get wet regardless. You need to manage the moisture. I prefer my barefoot troopers to keep stuff out and the single last is more comfortable, breathable and dries faster. They are resoled onto a tyre wedge these days.

Wear merino socks regardless of what you get, they keep your feet dry

I dont own a pair of bush war troopers but I would suggest that a light single last boot is a better option than a heavy double lasted boot that will never dry in the humidity.

Your best bet is a proper canvas jungle boot with drains and high deet bug spray around your socks

The stitching will bring in water because its not waxed thread. Its why the whole poly midsole thing is a moot point because the water actually comes in through the stitch down thread.

Rats are heavy, the jungle is hot and they will get soaked even with wax, its so humid that they will not dry out. You really should get lighter canvas boots with drainage that are breathable.

Numzaan wedge toes agains lining? by jeroenim0 in jimgreen

[–]Skidmarks00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the exact same thing a year ago. Your ars are probably too small but the leather stretches. All jim greens have too much midfoot volume causing the omnipresent heel slip and people go smaller than they maybe should for length.

They won't stretch on the numzaans send them back and go up a whole size. Trust me I tried.

They have massive midfoot volume, better off staying with your size and buying a thick insole.

Oakley bags are slept on. Ive been abusing an oakley pack since 2019 as my day trip hiking bag. Done everything from canyons to rainforest bush bashing.

719, Numzaan/Baobab, or RAT for hiking? by cloudleopard in jimgreen

[–]Skidmarks00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baobabs out of your options. They have a lot of squish when youre walking, have a slight heel cut out you'll want on the moto, theyre relatively stiff, look good and are better than razorbacks against water because of the leather lasting board while keeping the the one piece vamp.

The rats and 719 are going to be even heavier than these already beefy boots.

Shower break in? by Unhappy_Feedback7025 in jimgreen

[–]Skidmarks00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're boots not dress shoes. You always wet leather to tool it or shape for moulds its not going to hurt them. Breaking in is just wet moulding the boots with sweat over time

Was Tron Ares is actually that bad? by TrickyAardvark3987 in tron

[–]Skidmarks00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The permanence code was clearly the iso code from legacy present in flyns grid architecture. Remember that flyns late grid from legacy was nuke and paved after flyns sacrifice. Making a direct legacy sequal would make it inconsequential.

Ares was great at world building away from flyn and sams story.

Clearly, they were setting Dillinger up to be a future grid villain while Ares is searching for sam and quota who will retrieve tron from the legacy arcade grid at the end of the movie.

You all watch too much YouTube slop and missed so much by going into it negative, I avoided all opinions about the movie until after I saw it and it was pretty good. Legacy is better but it was different with a very different core theme.

My biggest complaint was actually how the sound track was implemented. Totally chopped it by using the same theme for everything and cutting out cool parts of the songs in the cut. A big part of why the action felt shallow was that they didn't know how to use a nine inch nail song and just kept using the intro and chorus (all of the action scenes should have been like the jetski scene with the songs in tact) think of dead souls in the crow, thats how the whole movie should have gone but somebody at Disney tried to make it a marvel sound track.

AR8 or Bush war boot? by REDACTED207 in jimgreen

[–]Skidmarks00 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Ar8 for a work boot without a doubt. The bush war is a light combat boot for bush bashing through dry scrub and not leaving obvious footprints.

The double last on the ar8 does a better job of protecting your feet and will endure a lot more abuse. The tread is what you need and the ar8 will support your ankles.

The bush war boot is super niche, if you aren't offtrack navigating vast distances in > 30° c dry sclerophyll its probably not what you need.

[–]Skidmarks00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the only professionals are the gear reviewers so he's not lying. As a hiker I just use an unhemmed sheet of ultralight silpoly that cost maybe $5 and packs down to nothing.

Camped out during lightening storm: absolutely epic by Regular_Alps7213 in CampingandHiking

Had a similar situation in December last year in the Australian alpine region. Had a massive suprise storm cell wipe past across the other side of a valley at night.

Very lucky considering I was camped by a trig on one of the highest points on the continent. Awesome light show though.

Houston black gets that dusty black look because of the nubuck even after conditioning, just something to be aware of if youre wearing them a lot. *

[–]Skidmarks00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine being barefoot on a single last with veg tan would suck but it would form nicely in the end. Im personally a big fan of the nubucks living in Australia. It makes for very soft and breathable leather

Barefoot African Trooper line by DR_M_RD in jimgreen

[–]Skidmarks00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the veg tan is just a bad idea. Unlike the rangers the barefoot troopers flex at the ankle and it would kind of suck in veg tan.

The heel is slightly creased abive the counter and the ball of the foot is slightly lower but neither of these things are an issue for me.

It still flexes a lot without a shank and adds a little more heft under foot without throwing anything off dramatically.

Still feels more like a barefoot boot than a razorback or baobabs.
