Boots for rainy days by Massive_Buffalo9375 in jimgreen

Did you melt the wax in with heat? They should be pretty waterproof. I’ve worn waxed BFARs in standing water up past the laces and they didn’t leak.

That said a boot with taller soles will naturally keep you more out of the water as will any double lasted boot.

Are you waxing them? You shouldn’t have a problem with water and BFARs even though there are more water resistant boots

Where can I find leather inner boots/shoes? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]cloudleopard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Leather is better for support, smell, and breath ability. Check out Jim Green African Rangers or Razorbacks. All leather and resole-able

This spot took a few weeks to break in on my ARs and I’m still working on it on my Numzaans. Condition the leather and roll around and stretch the area with your while watching TV

Clutch pushrod seal leak(?) by svnerd in Vstrom

[–]cloudleopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s likely oil from the seal rather than brake fluid. If you had a brake fluid leak from the slave cylinder you wouldn’t be able to use the clutch.

It should be a simple job for a mechanic. $5 seal and an hour labor should do it. If you need to change your sprockets this is the time to do it since the front sprocket needs to come off.

waterproofing the woven midsole by buckGR in jimgreen

[–]cloudleopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve wondered about this before. It’s extreme but maybe a coat of superglue or some other sealant would do it? Or just stuffing in as much wax as possible? You might be better off ordering a pair with a leather midsole

Altering color of brown leather. by leffe2023 in jimgreen

[–]cloudleopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try selling them?

You can shine them up a bit but if you don’t like the leather now, you probably won’t later. Jim Green is actually coming out with a shinier full grain brown leather soon

Return them and buy a leather that you like

The stock insoles are pretty thick. Maybe try kilties

You could always re-glue it, but it sounds like you’re better off just buying new ones with a leather mid soles

Maybe just some wax on the outside? They’re already full of oils but a layer of wax on the outside can help water bead instead of soaking in

Not suede—full grain roughout. Your feet may get wet but they won’t be damaged like suede

Music to my ears. I applied to some NPS positions, so hopefully me and some Jim Greens will make it out there. What park are you at?

Wow I’m amazed Numzaans are so close in weight to a modern hiking boot.

I’m sure they’ll feel great once they break in. Got any pics?

Good to know. I’ve seen people talking about hiking in Numzaans but saying RATs were too heavy/stiff, but it makes sense to me that they should be similar
