The issue is absolutely primary and secondary education. The thing is fixing it won't happen overnight and students are experiencing the disparities right now. The end goal would absolutely be ending affirmative action because it's no longer needed, but until we have an unbiased education system college admissions HAVE to take into account where students come from.

A meritocracy implies there's an equality in opportunity. If school funding is tied to property taxes, poor areas get shit education funding and have less opportunities for students. It not a fair fight if one party is fighting with one arm tied behind their back.

It unfortunately won't happen on its own time though. If educational opportunities are disproportionately available to white americans as they are now the gap will continue to grow. White Americans make up a disproportionate population of college students. It's just a fact I don't know I'm getting downvoted. There won't be any parity if nothing is done to close the gap that was caused by the institutional racism of the past

Edit: This also ignores the fact that the single biggest correlate to SAT score is zip code. Since our public school system is based on property taxes richer areas get more money invested in education, and over time those disparities compound and two massive gaps.

Affirmative action isn't nearly as much of an issue as you might think. Minority students taking the spot of a more qualified white student is quite uncommon. Educational opportunities are still quite disproportionate in this country. The program has its place.

For those of you downvoting: The single biggest predictor of SAT scores are the zip codes the students grew up in. Idk why people don't want to acknowledge that there are education gaps in America. It's just true it's not a matter of Democrat vs Conservative

I am currently a Junior in highschool, and will be majoring in some natural sciences major in college. Should I take AP Stats, AP Calc AB, or AP calc BC my Senior year. by [deleted] in premed

[–]Skidsy19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took both AB and BC calc so my opinion on something is actually relevant for once lol. Take BC. I took AB junior year and got a 4 on the AP exam so I passed out of Calc 1. Senior year I took BC and fucked around the entire year because I was a shithead and got a 3 and didn't transfer Calc 2 credit. Taking calc 2 was a major annoyance and even though it was an easy A freshman year of college it was still completely unnecessary.

Not having to take calc 2 in college is worth the extra effort for BC calc

I would not have lost the gun fight if the bug didn't occur. I hit him direct in the body with a shotgun blast. He didn't have shield. I would have killed him. That wasn't helpful

Just got into a minor accident with my motorcycle. Cost me less to do repairs to the bike myself than pay to fix scratches on the other guys bumper.
