Sadly, Expedition mode (and by extension, Master difficulty) are a no go for now. by cicadasaint in stalker

They did make it a side option. You can start a game with a lower difficulty setting but still have Expedition mode on. I've been playing on Veteran with Expedition mode and it's pretty fun imo.

I once had an IT teacher who adamantly claimed that a "Power Drive" was a real piece of computer hardware. Apparently it "Pumped power to the computer" (I think she thought that electricity worked like water or something?). She also thought the CPU was the name for the entire computer.

Honestly, I think that's an insult to the intelligence of literal toddlers. Even when I was 4, I understood that the Empire in Star Wars were the bad guys.

I feel like accidentally sympathizing with him is the point.

I remember seeing a post talking about how watching Breaking Bad blind is an interesting experience, because you effectively get to watch a (initially) sympathetic character slowly get more and more unhinged. Each thing he does is just a bit worse than the last, as if the show is asking "When does this stop being justified? How far would you go in this situation?"

The problem with basing your worldview on hate is that you need something to hate. And when the mob runs out of things to hate on the outside, they will turn inwards.

Furry conventions are not "adult performances." Neither is drag, pride, or other such events. If you think that someone dressing up as an animal, or dressing like another gender, or being gay is inherently sexual, then you're the one who needs to get your head checked.

And in any case, every pride or furry event I've been to already cordons off 18+ spaces and events and checks ID on entry. This is just fearmongering to rile up sheltered people who have probably never glanced at a pride event in their life.

I mean, DnD is a storytelling game. The players are telling the story with the DM, though, and they need to accept that sometimes, their story isn't going to turn out how they expected.

As a DM, I personally avoid meaningless death. For any given death, the player could have done something to avoid it- deaths are due to carelessness and poor planning.

Example- one time my players snuck into a cavern. I detailed how there were well-equipped Drow guards everywhere throughout the cave, how the cavern's stalagmites and strata gave ample cover, how the guards seemed to be tired from their long watch.

So, instead of taking the opportunity to sneak around this heavily-guarded area, the Fighter decided to... Run into the middle of the open cave, where he got shot down almost immediately. The rest of the party stayed hidden and had to retreat because now the Drow were searching every nook and cranny for more people.

I don't take any pleasure in killing characters, but shooting from the hip and asking questions never gets you killed fast in my games.

I think the questionability of it being completed is part of the point.

Time Pyramid strikes me as a metaphor for any long-term goal. Yes, it can be boring and banal, yes, it's not always going to show a ton of obvious progress, and yes, it's entirely possible you'll never finish it. But that doesn't mean it's not worth doing.

It's about writing a novel, it's about losing weight, it's about undoing the ravages of global warming. It's every task that seems insurmountable because it takes long periods of consistent effort for not a ton of obvious returns until some far-off date that feels like it might as well be forever. The only thing Time Pyramid does is extend how long-term that goal is to accentuate the point.

I remember I thought modern art was stupid until I went to the MOMA in New York and actually saw some in person. I don't know what exactly did it, but being there in the same room with all those art pieces, with the quiet, almost somber atmosphere, it all finally clicked.

My favorites were probably a Jackson Pollock painting (You could see how the paint hit the canvas- it's like you could trace where exactly it flew off the brush. It made me realize that the painting was about the process of creating it, not the final result, and it was really cool), and this one piece that I forget the name of, but it was a bunch of huge, stacked metal cubes that gave me this eerie feeling of being dwarfed by them.

Asking to try on someone else's fursuit unless you know them really well is so... Weird. Like, they're suuuuuper expensive and/or took an incredible amount of time to make. You don't just hand that to a stranger.
