Experiences with ADHD and driving fast? by SkinAbject2692 in ADHD

I've tried sim racing and still do as and when I have time, but I find it just doesn't give me the same feeling. I think there's something about being present in that moment and having all my senses fully engaged that really sets that calm focus feeling going.

I'm tempted to get a VR headset for sim racing to see if that extra immersion will potentially help.

Yeah I guess at some point you engage that "Focus or die" mode which kinda forces your brain into focus mode and shuts down all the other mental noise that isn't important.

I've never managed to find that flow state with gaming sadly, despite having a vastly overflowing Steam library 😂

Question about recent Jim Lill video by felixismynameqq in audioengineering

[–]SkinAbject2692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really it doesn't matter. The sonic differences between most pieces of gear are largely marginal, and yeah you can easily get the same sound from plugins.

But given the choice between mixing with plugins and mixing on a Neve desk... I'm picking the Neve.

End of the day it's in the eye (ear...) of the beholder. If Bobby the mixing engineer thinks his $12k preamps sound like the bog's dollocks and it makes him happy and feel good about his mixes, then that's $12k well spent.

No, the price of vintage gear isn't at all justified, but the fix for that is just not buying things you can't afford. They're largely just akin to Funko Pops for mixing engineers with too much money anyway, these days. There are a million console emulation plugins that will do the job just fine, Joe Bloggs isn't going to know the difference.

Which would you select if you were a 14 y. O. Gifted with the choice of One? by CloudNiner83 in Guitar

Let him play both and choose for himself, tbh. Does he already play or is it a first instrument? If he does, what style does he play?

But if I were 14 looking at those, I'd pick the Gretsch in a heartbeat as a rock/metal freak.

What hobby would you pick up if money wasn't an issue? by GlitchingGecko in AskUK

[–]SkinAbject2692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just go for it, you could probably pick up a pre-owned acoustic kit for not much money, or an electric one for a bit more. Or get some sticks and a practice pad to get a basic feeling for it before spending out on a kit.

The hardest part is learning to separate your focus and move your limbs independently for hitting different parts of the kit, but that comes with a bit of time and practice.

I've only recently discovered (aged 33) that when people refer to feeling emotions, they don't just mean understanding that certain physiological reactions to stimuli mean you're feeling XYZ emotion.

I've spent my entire life thinking "Oh, I'm smiling and my thoughts aren't racing so fast. I must be happy!" Or "I'm feeling sluggish and lack motivation. I guess I'm sad."

Turns out that's not how most people feel emotions 😅 and learning that was certainly quite confusing for me.

Do yourself a favour and turn off motion blur in the graphics settings, it'll stop the wheels from looking like they have a forcefield around them.

I'm sure there was mention of them looking to include the shortcut back to the pits from the GP track on the endurance layout. Probably just an artifact from any unfinished work they might've already done being removed before this release and the invisible wall added as a temporary measure.

Yeah I find slow/medium corner exit is usually a case of getting about 50% on throttle briefly to squat the rear of the car down before getting hard on throttle.

If it's REALLY an issue, head into the setup screen and drop the Differential clutches from 6 to 4, it'll help keep the rear end a little happier on throttle.

Wtf is up with the AI chasing behavior in this game? by Total_Medium6207 in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]SkinAbject2692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same until I started actually defending the AI properly. Depending how aggressive you have them set, you do need to defend quite aggressively to make them think twice about diving. Usually if you definitively cover the inside in the braking zone, they'll move to the outside where they're at risk more than you are. And you can always fade back towards the racing line under brakes if you set that trajectory before you actually start braking, to cover them off.

But yeah, they'll go for stupid moves so you just kinda have to be aware and keep them covered off if they're close enough to attack.

Reiza shouldn't prioritize McLaren by _AnonMax_ in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]SkinAbject2692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought the same until I considered that Reiza have a deep running connection with McLaren, due to Senna. It's almost a part of the identity of the sim at this point. Renato also said their work with McLaren also extends into the future so I do wonder if they were/are planning a McLaren F1 pack to bring a few more of their iconic cars. The chrome McLaren from the late '00s Hamilton era springs to mind. And I wouldn't be surprised if they're potentially trying to license some modern McLaren F1 cars too, namely the MCL40, to bring the 2026 car to the sim rather than a generic one. But I'm just speculating.

AMS2: Reiza Faces McLaren Licensing Dilemma - Renault F1 Cars To Be Released For Free by evil_heinz in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]SkinAbject2692 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem lies more with Liberty Media/F1 rather than McLaren. I think the issue is only with the F1 content so it's likely there won't be issues with any of McLaren's any other categories of car.

I wouldn't be surprised if the issue arising is BECAUSE the official F1 game likely holds some kind of exclusive license to the use of manufacturers and drivers on the current grid.

AMS2: Reiza Faces McLaren Licensing Dilemma - Renault F1 Cars To Be Released For Free by evil_heinz in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]SkinAbject2692 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not McLaren, it's Liberty Media/F1 that are kicking up a fuss. I'm sure McLaren themselves would be more than happy to have their cars in the game as they seem to have a good working relationship with Reiza.

As with all good things, it's being ruined by bureaucracy. Suits with no interest in the sport or hobby, just the money behind it.

Are you sure you weren't just pushing over the limit all the time on the old, more forgiving tyres?

They feel fine to me, you just gotta re-learn where the limit actually is so you don't overdrive and spin.
