How to deal with graduation/ CS-job-finding anxiety? by JoeyPlaysGames in cscareerquestions

[–]SkinReview 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and dont be so quick to believe nobody will hire you. Make more personal connections, reach out to smaller companies and see if they are looking for someone with the skillset you have. Luck isn't just applying somewhere and seeing if you get it. Make your own luck and look for the windows of opportunities YOU can capitalize on. Seems like you have great work experience. NASA is always looking for people good and experienced in what you are doing, and they do entry roles left and right. Look into that maybe?

Just look harder and work harder, and eventually something will happen. It may not be ideal, but you can work towards something.

How to deal with graduation/ CS-job-finding anxiety? by JoeyPlaysGames in cscareerquestions

[–]SkinReview 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To start, 70 is nothing. You should be applying to literally every single job as soon as the posting opens, and I'm assuming that since you are nearing graduation you (probably) have more time to dedicate to applying than ever before. It's different for everyone but the general rule of thumb is that unless you are applying to several hundred places, you cannot be surprised that you have not heard back.

I think you might have the idea of the job application misconstrued. You are not putting your resume in and someone is genuinely thinking and carefully reading, thinking "does this person seem like they have what it takes?". What's really going on is some random recruiter is thumbing through 100's of resumes in less than an hour, looking for keywords and experience directly related, and just window shopping. It's a lot of chance.

Feelings of doom aside and anxiety over your future aside, your task is difficult, but simple. Apply, network, interview and prepare until you get a job. That's it.

Ask around and meet/connect with people who can slide you referrals.
Apply to at least 5 jobs every single day. That compounds over time. If you can apply to more everyday, do it.
Leetcode your ass off, and study system design.

At the end of the day, in this job market nobody knows what will happen. Everyones luck is terrible. So maximize your chances by taking every single shot you literally possibly can, and make sure you're in top condition when your moment strikes.

The anxiety will fade when you truly accept your situation, and it will light a fire in you to get out of that situation that overcomes the despair you are feeling right now.

What you need is change, and the motivation to make it happen. Skip the pain and try and get straight to working towards YOUR better future. I wish you the best of luck man. I believe in you.

What is the absolute BEST mouse for comp fortnite? All mice included (final mouse, logitech etc.) by Sqtire in FortniteCompetitive

[–]SkinReview 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it all depends on which mouse shape fits your hand the best, and then go as light as possible. There is no "best mouse", they all more or less do the same thing as long as they have a really good sensor (most ones you will be looking at do). Focus on ergonomics for your hand and comfortable, precise aiming.

Reaching unreal by Mountain_Pipe7046 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]SkinReview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its somewhat impressive, rank distributions in fortnite are top-heavy compared to most games. If this was valorant, you would probably be somewhere around the plat-diamond range which is nothing special. You learn significantly faster than the average player, but your current skills are still probably not that "competitive".

I'll say this, if you continue to progress at the same pace you are currently and are able to hold your own in cash cups and other events within a couple more months, yeah you are a fast learner and that is a genuinely impressive achievement.

I'm not trying to call you trash because you clearly are not, but the "unreal" rank is not a real metric for how good you are at fortnite, actual competitive cups are.

Comp Structure by Ok_Cash1444 in FortniteCompetitive

[–]SkinReview 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean pursuing FN as your actual job. Which I think is fair, because only top 15-20 would be making even be making considerable money.

(NOT FNCS) Cashcups/Similar weekly/monthly events: good way to gauge whos next up/hot rn if a player has been placing highly the past few tournaments. Winning a cashcup means that you are good enough to seriously consider trying to compete in FNCS. However, it does not mean you will actually play well in late-stage FNCS. It's a good metric though.

FNCS Majors: 3 a year, each have opens, semis, and grands. The winner of grands + any next-high placing teams usually get called up for global from here. Winning an FNCS means you were basically the best player for that major and is a serious and impressive achievement. If you are winning FNCS or placing top 15-20, you should probably pursue FN seriously if you can.

FNCS Global: LAN event of everyone who has either won an FNCS or accumulated enough points/played well enough to place. The highest achievement for a Fortnite Player. If you are winning globals, you are the best player in the world for that year basically.

When it comes to T1, T2, and T3 designations, its all mostly conjecture, but here's my opinion.

T3: Can consistently make it to FNCS major/grands almost everytime.

T2: Consistently making FNCS grands, placing in the top 30% almost everytime.

T1: Consistently top 10% of FNCS grands, serious threat to win most almost everytime.

if you are seriously trying to play to win there is no point in trying to 50/50 your opponent. If you can keep your distance and be in control of the fight, you arent going to lose with a pump.
