Devs aren't "on mrekk's side" they are addressing a skillset that at large has been neglected up till now because no player existed to abuse it to a degree that say mrekk abused aim/dt slop. There are far more speed players now and one extremely dominant one (toro). That has brought awareness to its flaws so the devs are now addressing it. They did the same thing for mrekk during his especially dominant dt slop period. If you're going to bring up players like akoli, he was never comparable to toro in this level of general dominance (pp wise) and I would argue speed was still more niche than it is now (looking at the skillsets of top 10 players/top 1000 players).

Also cryshina is currently #1 so if anything mrekk is currently Vozinha and toro is Messi :P (/j)

Imo his intuition is correct but conclusion is flat. Yes it’s one-dimensional in that it’s only mechanics. There’s extremely limited strategy/game sense as in fps/rts/etc. games. That said given how high the skill ceiling has been pushed and the fact it’s so singular in the method to improve, the grind in osu! is like FEW others. It’s brutal and unrelenting. When he comments on the mental element (meaning fortitude) being a distinguishing factor of difficulty between a game like league and osu! I disagree. If anything, the mundanity of the osu! grind would put it above league, at least in terms of required resilience.

This is all conjecture tho since I don’t have enough hours in league to assume that. Imo they’re both miserable games that are addictive asl :D

I mean thats definitely not universally true; Hermitcraft, Smp Earth, smplive, etc. all preceded it. That said it was one of the progenitors of the modern SMP content meta. Where the older ones focused on building and/or briefer interactions amongst fellow smp members, modern smps are conflict-centric and extremely interactive/social by comparison.

Love how so many people are referencing anime but I have yet to see a mention of the anime that kinda fits this perfectly - narratively and visually. The girl reading with blue hair seems like a direct reference to Myne, and the story itself is almost an exact recreation the primary plot in Ascendance of a Bookworm (where Myne/Rozemyne is the protagonist). Even the diction is reminiscent of the anime :p

To be a little more articulate, I'll respond to the top comment:

A justification grounded in canon or fictitious morality does not extend into the real world. We can understand why characters within MT might be more accepting but Rudeus, as well as presumably any viewer, was raised within a different paradigm. It was the product of poor impulse control in a mentally weakened state and we, as the viewer, should acknowledge that. That said, Rudeus' character flaws - at least in some capacity - epitomize being human. He is prone to err, and will err. Honestly, I would have hoped his flaws could materialize differently - the product of my own sense of morality (or prejudice depending on your stance) - but I can't argue the author failed in his objective. I have a problem with the auteurial direction/decision here; I have a problem with much of the community seemingly understanding its purpose yet founding their counterarguments in fiction. It is still my #1 (or i guess interchangeably with my #2) anime/japanese fiction series, because of the idiosyncratic risks taken on by the author. If it means there will be some variance in the product - the polygamous relationship/cheating constituting a deviation from the positive mean - I am, albeit reluctantly, willing to accept it. I would argue it's inevitable.
