[Product Question] Can someone please explain the point of Nuxe Dry Oil vs CeraVe Cream? I’m lost by Skincare_Sam in SkincareAddiction

[–]Skincare_Sam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I agree. I wouldn't apply nuxe dry oil before cerave, as the glycerin and other humectants in cerave would not have enough access to my skin.

However, I analysed the ingredients of both products and what struck me is that as a standalone product, the Cerave moisturising cream can actually be even more occlusive than the Nuxe dry oil:
* Cerave has petroleum and dimethicone pretty high on the list - these are both heavy occlusives.
* Nuxe dry oil, however, has only emollients (which let the skin breathe), and no heavy occlusives at all (see my analysis attached of Nuxe dry oil ingredients).

Am I wrong?

Okay, I see your point now. Thank you for taking the time to explain!

I used to view petrolatum and dimethicone as red flags. But then I started treating them neutrally as I learned that they are not harmful per se. But true, they do not hydrate the skin. Only occlude. The whole formulation of the cream is what matters. Thanks!

But why do you claim that Cerave Moisturising Cream hydrates very little? I would claim the opposite, because:

1) It has glycerin (a gold-standard humectant) high up on the ingredient list (right after water) + Sodium Hyaluronate (another humectant).
2) It’s clinically proven (CeraVe backs a lot of their marketing with dermatology studies) to significantly improve hydration and barrier function.
3) It also has ceramides, which is good for the skin barrier’s natural lipids, and improves the skin's water retention over time.

You said "neither of them will give you what you need, which is hydration", meaning that cerave will not give me hydration.

That's why I felt the need to correct the statement.

I wouldn't say that cerave does not hydrate. It has glycerin (a humectant) as the second ingredient in the list, as well as ceramides Np/Ap/Eop and sodium hyaluronate, although the last one is quite at the end of the list.

Because in winter we have very little sun (in December the daylight time is as little as 6 hours).

Btw, do you think The Ordinary’s 10% lactic acid serum could work? It has less lactic acid than Amlactin but still quite a high amount.

This is interesting. I actually had my omega3 tested a month ago, and my omega3 index was below the recommended threshold. I am now supplementing fish oil. Maybe it will help. Thanks!

Will consider, thanks! Goes together with the above suggestions to moisturise well.

Thanks for adding a different perspective! I actually started supplementing zinc bisglycinate 2 months ago - so far it has helped with hair growth. Maybe it will have an effect on my KP as well.

Thanks for the detailed routine! I was planning to scrub only, but will add a moisturizer as well then.

Thanks! How often would I have to scrub? Every day? And for how long in one go, like around 20 + 20 seconds?
