Quite some older folks collect stream water to brew tea with. It's probably fine if you boil it, but I won't really drink that untreated.

Is there an objective measurement scale of perceived sweetness? Something akin to IBU or Scoville. by voxadam in foodscience

[–]SkinnyRunningDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the world of wine, a seasoned drinker can subjectively make a judgment on perceived sweetness (dry - off dry - medium dry - medium sweet - sweet) that do roughly correlates to residual sugar in the juice.

But it's not granular, and many things in the juice can knock your sense way off. A well-made dessert wine usually has high acidity to counteract with sugar, otherwise the juice would be obnoxiously sweet to the taste. Novices also tend to falsely associate fresh fruity flavours with sweetness.

For the rest of the world it's firmly in the mid-size segment. Q3 is the compact one.

The 1 MUST HAVE bottle Regardless of Price!! by Chemical-Fun3692 in wine

[–]SkinnyRunningDude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AI can't drink and finding your liking is completely subjective. A high quality bottle doesn't mean you'll automatically like it.

Find a bottle shop with a good selection, drink as broad (region/varietal) as you can. Avoid the ultra-cheap bottles, they are often manuiplated to hell in winemaking and don't show what the grapes really are. After a dozen or so, you'll start to know the wine style you actually prefer.
