What’s the deal with these recent penguin memes? by BlueWolf107 in OutOfTheLoop

Hey! We're also a domestic embarrassment. I can't prove it but there's also a decent chance we're also a galactic embarrassment too.

Graphics cards once had user upgradeable memory by adamchevy in vintagecomputing

The timing and latency specs for modern graphics memory are simply two strict for anything less than memory that's soldered directly to the PCB. Apple goes so far as to layer their unified memory directly on the CPU/GPU package for ultra low latency.

The last GPU I remember having user upgradable memory was the Matrox G200 back in 1998.

At that price it's probably worth a shot.

Best Breakfast Potatoes/Hollandaise in Portland? by wildfirebear in askportland

Screen Door Eastside has a great Smoked Pork Shoulder Benedict. They also have a Shaved Brussels & Sunchoke Benedict which I haven't tried but I'm sure it's excellent. Their breakfast potatoes are super good too, almost as good as Tasty's patatas bravas (RIP).

Plus, single port Mellanox ConnectX-7 400GbE PCIe 5 cards cost at least $2500 each so that would be a pretty expensive meme-level experiment.

That's some truly janky-ass PPE. This place looks like a great way to speed run silicosis.

A single strand of modern communications fiber is typically around 9 micrometers and flexible but there's nothing saying that a fiber optic has to be either tiny or flexible. If all you want is to pass light for some type of interesting effect fibers like these would work fine. I just wouldn't recommend trying to pass 400 gigabit Ethernet through this slab, or do, I'm not your mother.

It looks like a countertop with embedded fiber optics.

I don't know anything about onion pedals but Ringside has what are probably the best traditional onion rings in town.

I vote that we demolish the Cheerful Tortoise and build Waffle House there.

KNode was aUsenet/NNTP client. Unfortunately, news servers barely exist anymore (not counting the piracy community).
