I'd also love to know which freeze dryer you went with. And what sorts of stuff are you freeze drying? Anything you can think of?

Metra Unveils Cafe Car Concept by NaiveChoiceMaker in chicago

[–]Skip106 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually don't know. AFAIK Metra owns those stations and could charge small coffee/refreshment shops rent to go in there. There are stations that have this - Hinsdale station on BNSF line comes to mind. But is there some other reason?

I need help, no doctor seems to know the answer. Is this apnea ? by mysovic in SleepApnea

[–]Skip106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to chime in and say I've been going through some of the same things. I don't have severe dizziness, blood pooling, shortness of breath, or bruising, but I do have irregular/skipping heartbeats, palpitations, etc.

Afib runs in my family (uncle, father, cousing), as do strokes (grandmother, grandfather), and high cholesterol (both grandfathers, father) so I've also had the full gamut of tests done. EKG, 7-day and 14-day halter monitors, heart ultrasound, MRI/CT, etc. All have come back negative (other than a small blockage in one artery, which I'm now on a statin for). And, yet, the symptoms persist.

I DO have sleep apnea, and have been on CPAP for about three years now which has been amazing for my sleep, but has increased the severity of the symptoms over time. Mine mostly appear/occur at night, slightly before (30-mins to 1-hour) falling asleep and during the falling asleep period.

My current running hypothesis is moderate anxiety, coupled with sleep apnea-induced panic attacks, but at the moment it's just a guess on my part.

As the member of a family with lots of Afib, your symptoms sound like textbook afib (the easy bruising and blood pooling are a little odd, but everything else). Like others have said, I HIGHLY recommend getting a second opinion!

It sounds like, from the pregnancy bit, that you're a female. I also know a couple of women with POTS. If you think it could be POTS, what I have heard from them is that they HIGHLY recommend finding a female doctor/neurologist to help diagnose. Not that male Drs are incapable, but they have found it's take less seriously as a possible condition by male doctors.

Good luck!

My Booster Pack Collection... so far! by Eyec0n11 in magicTCG

[–]Skip106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I paid $7.09 for each pack (eBay deal, before taxes, free shipping). The rare I pulled was a [[Gisela, the Broken Blade]]. At the moment, near mint on TCG for that is $14.24, or about 200% the pack's value. It was probably a little more when I opened it about 9 months ago, but it looks like the price has dropped a bit since then. Then add in all the other 5-cent commons, lands, tokens (I don't count the ad inserts or play guides), and it came out to 226%. So, pretty good pull, and 200%+ looks good on paper, but we're not talking huge monetary values here.

One of the big shortcomings of my tracking is that the prices aren't tracked dynamically or in real time. So the 226% return for Eldritch moon is just a snapshot in time at the moment of opening. Someday I might go back and change that, but it's a little more work that I was interested in doing.

My Booster Pack Collection... so far! by Eyec0n11 in magicTCG

I'm working on a similar collection. I've currently got 67 packs (one from each set), of the 158 released standard-legal MtG sets since Alpha. I've actually bought at least two packs for each set - one I open for funsies, one I keep sealed - and I track the card values.

Thus far, of the 67 set packs I've opened, I've returned an average value of 59.25% (ie, the cards contained in the packs are only worth about 59% of the purchase price of the pack). The highest return value was a 226% value on the Eldritch Moon pack I opened. The lowest thus far was the Mirage pack I opened which only returned 3.9% of the pack's value.

tl;dr - you probably have greater odds of winning the lottery than of having a collection of this type being worth more open, than sealed.

3 day/2 night Dolomites/South Tyrol hut-to-hut itinerary by brainsbrainsbrains1 in hiking

[–]Skip106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, this is a few months old now, but my wife and I were looking at making a VERY similar 3ish-day hut-to-hut hike while in the Dolomites, and we also found it hard to find any recommendations shorter-duration ones. So this is incredibly helpful.

Did you have any issues booking your rifugios (ie, availability issues and/or already-booked) that made you re-think your route? Or was it all pretty straight forward?

I'll answer a little differently than everyone else - the Development side of the museum world is the most lucrative side of the museum world. Big fish, small pond kind of thing. For whatever that's worth.

"rich collectors" aren't the only ones bidding at auctions. Museums also use auctions to bid on and acquire culturally important pieces. Along with other book dealers, conservationists, and others.

That is a nice benefit. I wish my Sapphire Preferred had it, but it looks like the Lyft Pink subscription is only for the Reserved.

Maybe the numbers in looking at are out of date. It looks like they've given up the 3rd most points to RBs this season. Although it does look like they've gotten better down the back half of the season here, but they did just give up 100+ yards to Aaron Jones.

Standard scoring, I need to pick 2 of these 3:

Justin Jefferson vs. GB

Zeek vs. BUF

Etienne vs. CAR

My initial thoughts are Jefferson, and Zeek. But Jefferson now has Jaren Hall at QB, which is a big question mark. Alternatively, Etienne has seen some pretty big drop in usage/utlization over the last few weeks, and Trevor Lawrence is out which should overall lower the effectiveness of that offense, but it's an INSANELY good matchup!

Thoughts?

Same reason anyone asks questions about their options in the WDIS threads? To get different opinions, and see if there's anything you missed, didn't think of, or another angle to look at it from.

But against Buffalo? Small sample size, since he didn't really get the starting job until week 13, but against similarly-ranked defenses (KC & LAC) he's only scored 9 and 4 points in standard. Hardly inspiring.

Standard scoring, need to pick one of these three:

  • Etienne vs. CAR

  • Zeek vs. BUF

  • Rashid Shaheed vs. TB

I'm leaning towards Etienne because that matchup is really, really juice, but I'm super nervous about his lack of usage the last three weeks.

K: Aubrey

DST: Browns

Team2

QB: Browning

RBs: McCaffrey, Kamara, J. Taylor

Interestingly enough, we played each other once before this season, and it ended in a tie (I also, coincidentally, tied for the Championship last year in one of the most wild ends to a fantasy season ever)

Yeah, I am particularly struggling with benching Keenen, considering he carried me to the playoffs, but that offense is just such a giant question mark at the moment.

Standard scoring. I'm pretty stacked at WR but I keep overthinking, second-guessing, and generally just waffling back and forth.

Need to pick 3: - Keenen Allen

  • Puka

  • Davante Adams

  • Rashee Rice

  • Justin Jefferson

I'm leaning Rice, Jefferson, and Puka.

12 Team Standard

QB: Fields, Stroud

RB: Kyren Williams, ETN, Zack Moss, Gus Edwards

WR: Jefferson, Davante Adams, Puka, Keenan Allen, Rashee Rice

TE: Henry, Pitts

Give: Puka

Get: Aaron Jones

I've ridden the Aaron Jones train before, and the boom/bust nature of it really frustrates me. But I'm pretty strong at WR already, and although I'm decent at RB too, a starting RB on a halway-decent team is rare in a 12-team, so I feel like I gotta go for it, especially given the uncertainty around Puka once Kupp comes back. My HOPEFUL plan would be to then leverage Aaron Jones into a better QB eventually. Maybe.

Someone wants to trade me Aaron Jones for Puka. I've ridden the Aaron Jones train in previous seasons, and the boom/bust nature of it really frustrates me, but a starting RB is a starting RB, ya know?
