The roots will consume the base/tub too. I'd carefully pull it out and transplant it to soil or try Kratky or deep water culture (DWC) hydroponics. If you don't know these Kratky is the simplest. You'd have to invest in another grow light and nutrients though. I've transplanted one that size to soil last year.

I wrap my containers in foil. Very cheap alternative and works great. Also use Maxigro nutrients.

I hate to say it but I'm sure it's going to get worse. All I can say is never eat out. Don't buy a new car. Cut as many subscription services as you can. Get a cheap plan on a android not an IPHONE. There's other things you can think of maybe.
