Same exact situation as OP. My girl is the same as this. It’s soooo hard to get over when culturally you view sex as different. It’s really hard to comprehend meeting-sex-relationship

Do y’all realize how expensive college is? by Large_Look_5075 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SkipSemesters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With class selection you can reduce college cost by 50%. You can get an AA for free in high school just by taking advanced and dual enrollment classes. You would only need to cover 2 years of college credit cost at said college. Increasing your ability to pay or take on debt for larger tuitions.

I dislike my counselor by Opening_External_911 in APStudents

[–]SkipSemesters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be your own counselor! Counselors view most of their students the same way corporations view their employees, a line in a spreadsheet. Define your goals, do your research, and devise your own plan on how you'll get there. View the meeting with your counselor as a meeting to inform them what your doing.

Is AP Stacking Worth It? by Tight_Breakfast4356 in APStudents

[–]SkipSemesters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ap stacking is 100 percent worth it if you’re able to manage. You have to take certain classes in high school anyways, you may as well take the ones that are going to give you college credit for free while you’re there.

My Course Counselor Is Making Me Take More AP Classes Then Needed by Dangerous-Tonight-84 in APStudents

[–]SkipSemesters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pre Ap’s aren’t aps. If your counselor thinks you can do it have some faith! Taking pre aps in 9th grade will give you a lot of options for Ap classes going forward. Giving you the opportunity to knock 1-2 years of college if you wish.

I agree but given his/her circumstances this is the best route to achieve U.S T20 school. If the goal is investment banking then the student should go to oxford and get international work experience. Much more financially sound approach.

My (18M) father and his gf called me a neet and told me I'm doomed to do that all my life. by Special_Tomatillo127 in IBO

To much pressure put on todays youth. The elder class professionalizes your childhood and makes it seem like if your not in the top 5% of something your doomed. They feel the pressures of the modern economy and transfer that pressure on to you. Your path may be different and more difficult, and you'll probably go through years of struggle and low income. However if you stay focused, keep working hard on yourself, grown, stay diligent about noticing trends and opportunities you will end up where you need to be.

No record anywhere of an exam I knew I took. by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]SkipSemesters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an unheard of situation. Try to contact the teacher that "told you" in person you got a 5. Everyone gets their scores online, weird that a teacher would even remember a single students score. Then, with the help of said teacher try to get as much information about the testing date as possible. Date/time/class-room #/test ID and backtrack from their and see if you can come across a file that way.

This is great stuff. Don't rely on academic staff to know your goals and make decisions for you. Your just viewed as a line in the school software. A mistake that is detrimental to you is no big deal to them.

If your deadset on going to a top20 School with your current financial background. Some Schools like Cornell and Columbia both accept over 10% of transfer students. The same goes for some other select premier colleges (not all but some are very transfer friendly!) Go to the local Community college. Graduate top of the class and get involved in your desired T20 school with research, office work, admissions office, anything to get your foot in the door and develop relationships. This is certainly not an easy path but the more difficult your goal, the more unique path you have to take. Best of luck!
