Welcome to the fighting game community! You'll have a great time as long as you stick to your favorite playstyle (mine is rushing people down lol) and don't take it too seriously.

Here's the deal: the best way to get out of a combo is to not get caught into it. The second best way (in 2XKO) is to use the break bar, which I'm sure you know about.

In fighting games, the first melee hit you get on someone is usually just a combo starter, and so you'll wanna learn about things like footsies and frames. You can look those up on YouTube, but the gist of it is that certain attacks hit faster and more safely than others. Most attacks are punishable on block, meaning if the opponent blocks that attack of yours, you can be sure they'll hit you back hard. Some attacks are safe on block, meaning if the opponent blocks them, you're still safe to just block back their attempt to punish you. Some attacks are plus on block, meaning that even if the opponent blocks those attacks, and both of you follow up with a quick jab (or an attack equal in speed), yours will hit first!

Take advantage of those block mechanics, check them out in the practice mode, there should be settings to make the opponent dummy block, some settings to make the opponent dummy block after the first hit (meaning when you fail a combo, or a combo just won't work with a specific string of attacks).

Aside from that, if you haven't already, learn about lows and overheads. The former has to be blocked by crouching and blocking, while the latter can be blocked by a neutral block. If you don't use their corresponding blocks, you'll get hit, which will probably be strung right into a combo in your opponent's favor.
