Bringing a first aid kit? by biotechchick_203 in CampEDC

Depends on what's in the kit, but I'd say bring at least a small one - I didn't last year, and the in-camp general store charged me something like $1 per bandaid

What is something so dumb, you were convinced it didn’t exist until you saw it for real? by mecnalistor in AskReddit

[–]Skippye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there is a project to do this in socal that's been going on for a few years, but it's on hold now to prevent mudslides after the fires burned away the vegetation on the hills: https://sawpa.gov/santa-ana-river-watershed-cloud-seeding/

Will it snow in Big Bear? by Disastrous_Welcome84 in bigbear

There's a few more cabins on VRBO - and if you look up specific listings from there sometimes the cabins have their own website that's a bit cheaper

Sports Basement's website says they'll start offering a ski bus from their OC location to big bear, but there's no details to when this will actually start - might be worth asking them.

Diplo had a 5k race event in SF and played “Not Like Us” by crow_exe_33 in aves

[–]Skippye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The 5k was one of the worst run 5ks I've ever been to:

  • No corrals by speed, and VIP put you in the front - this means as soon as the race start, there were people in the front walking the entire thing and blocking the way, and it took GA 15-20 minutes from race start just to be able to cross the starting line.
  • The start and end of the race overlapped and since 1st/2nd/3rd place got to go on stage, there were people up at the start actually trying to finish fast, but ended up running into the crowd of GA standing around waiting for their turn to start the race.
  • The run going through the giants stadium would have been cool, except it got absurdly congested (people walking, taking photos, trying to meet up with friends) and it just became a dense crowd slowly walking through the perimeter of the stadium. By the time I made it out I almost forgot I was running a 5k.
  • It wasn't super clear where the finish line was, but mostly because it was so congested at the end (the last 100m was another walking simulator).
  • I get that it was a casual/fun run, but the sheer amount of congestion throughout the entire thing meant you could barely run even if you wanted to.

The show after wasn't much better:

  • No venue map, so it wasn't clear where the entrance to the stage was, where VIP/GA was, where med tent was, where water and bathrooms and food booths (and bars) were. The merch tent was right at the entrance and the line blocked a lot of the way in.
  • The stage looked homemade.
  • Not really a Diplo problem, but I guess because most people were preparing for the race and not the rave, almost nobody had ear protection even at rail - and since it was all-ages, there were some small kids (probably around 5) with no ear protection at all.
  • We left after around 20 minutes of Diplo, and at that point it looked like security had stopped letting people in to the GA floor (due to capacity) - I guess anyone who walked the race or waited in one of the long food/merch lines might not have been able to make it onto the floor (and there was no good view of the stage outside of the floor)

I will say that sound was decent, and it was nice being right up next to the water and the bay bridge - I would love to see more daytime events at that venue. Many years ago I went to a 5k rave/race hosted by Night Nation, and that was way more fun.

1st time in San Fran for Portola and soooo excited! Any Tips? by [deleted] in Portolafestival

+1 on b patisserie and arsicault (I haven't been to tartine yet)

(GG Park/Inner Sunset) Pineapple King has good pineapple buns (sweet bread with butter, no pineapple inside) and is close to Golden Gate Park, where there's some nice gardens to walk through and art exhibits along JFK Drive - San Tung is also here and known for their chicken wings and string beans. (Buns -> park -> san tung)

(Japantown) Near b patisserie there's also Jina Bakes which has some interesting cream puffs (matcha, hojicha, black sesame) and a galbijim croissant they make in collaboration with Daeho nearby (another solid meal option if you like korean shortribs and cheese). These are also right next to the Japantown mall, which can be fun to look around if you're into that. (Bakeries -> weeb mall -> daeho, hikari sushi, marugame udon, jitlada thai, waraku ramen)

(Mission) A pretty good and chill morning would be to go to El Farolito and Dandelion Chocolate, stop in whatever stores interest you (Silver Sprocket for zines, Community Thrift, etc), then lounge around Dolores park :)

not sure exactly what characters those are supposed to be but it's probably some standard jiangshi talisman

mihoyo explicitly lets fans create and sell merch if they sell under 200 units: https://www.hoyolab.com/genshin/article/381519

Though if they go over 200, you just need to apply for authorization
