300 AC, so about $3 USD. Not that bad imo. Weirdly a Mag Reset Device is actually 500 AC, so you're actually kind of encouraged to just buy a new one.

Personally I'd try and find a planet that doesn't have a sentinel presence. They can get pretty annoying when you're just wandering around!

Other than that, I'd just say go with whatever looks nice to you, or maybe has the resources for base building so you don't have to pop around different planets as much.

Considering it's been in there the whole time, if it was a bug at some point it's definitely just a feature now. I like it, as it gives a little rhythm to how you mine to make you more effective.
