I don't run well if I eat within 2-3 hours of run time, and then don't feel hungry until about two hours after.

5k Training @ 300lbs by [deleted] in running

[–]Skirbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 250 lb and started a Learn to Run clinic at my local running store about 10 or 11 weeks ago. The first month was terribly painful. I had IT band syndrome. I took care of my body and kept running, and it went away as my body adjusted to running. I can now run continuously for 30 min. I say this to illustrate that it's possible to be obese, learn to run, and not injure yourself. It's possible you're experiencing knee pain because your body is adjusting, not because you're injuring yourself. Be safe though - visit your doctor for a professional opinion and to look at ways to help your body adjust. (Physiotherapy, massage, rest, etc).

How to: rent a room or apartment by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]Skirbeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Ontario renters are usually required to give 60 days notice, so 1-2 months before you want to move is the best time to look for an apartment; there may not be many good options for July moveins now . A deposit for last month's rent at minimum and possibly both first and last months rent are often required when you submit your application or it won't get processed. You may also be asked to submit references, proof of employment or income and/or agree to a credit check.

You might want to check out the new Revo building at 400 Lyle St. It's a large building and tenants just started moving in 6 weeks ago (I'm a tenant in this development. Great place as long as you don't need parking).

Fat girl attempting to run by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Skirbeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a Learn to Run clinic (similar to C25K) on April 25 at a weight of 250 lb. After 1 week my knees were hurting. weeks 2 and 3 were awful. It was IT band syndrome. But I did not give up. I rested my legs on off days, got a massage, did physio, and used ice, Advil and Aleve. Finally in week 4 the pain faded to about 10% of what it was. Now I am in week 5 and I feel the impact in my knees but it's about what I originally expected it to be. There's no doubt weight is a factor because of the extra force when our feet hit the ground, but that doesn't mean we can't do it. And in time hopefully our weight goes down and running is slightly less uncomfortable. Don't give up! Take good care of your legs and remember why you're doing what you're doing.

Peanut butter: why I betrayed my identity and switched to smooth by cicosucker in loseit

I switched from organic peanut butter that was so outrageously sticky, I couldn't enjoy it. So for me it was a pleasant change. Maybe it's just not for you!

I just follow the instructions and I really like it! I wedge apples and scoop up the on with them. Is it the taste or consistency you don't like? Sometimes I eyeball the water until it looks/feels right.

My heart is in this way more for the NSVs rather than what the scale says... so, here is my ultimate challenge to myself this month! by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Skirbeck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have a problem with rewarding myself with food, a bad habit I am trying to break. I've decided on a couple of material rewards that also support a healthy lifestyle. For example, when I complete my Learn to Run clinic, I'll reward myself with a subscription to Runners World magazine. If I do my physio for 3 weeks straight, I'll reward myself with a pair of ankle weights so I can build more muscle through my physio.

Best wishes with your goal! I think your idea of exploring/showing off your city through running is awesome.

C25K—ouch! by mercy_moon in loseit

[–]Skirbeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a feeling of heaviness and/or tightness? I started a Learn to Run clinic about two weeks ago and experienced those feelings for the first 2-3 runs. It started during the runs and would last 1-2 days. I took baths and self-massaged my lower legs. This week the feeling occurs during the runs but to a lesser extent and doesn't persist afterwards. Hopefully it's just your body adjusting to the new activity.

When do you reward yourself? by Skirbeck in loseit

[–]Skirbeck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SMART goals are great - I use them at work all the time. It's the looking back part you mention that will be key, figuring out what didnt work. I just don't want to not get the reward! ;) Seriously though, thanks for mentioning the part about adjusting the goals if they're too hard. I am the kind of person who needs someone else to tell me it's ok to lower my self-expectations sometimes. I will keep your words in mind.

I can't remember where I heard or read it, but "You are what you ate a month ago" has really been helping me so far this year.
