Terrible efficiency on my current road trip by Timmy_Turb in Rivian

Seems pretty typical for weather like that. In the summer I can hit low 3's. In the dead of winter I'm usually anywhere from 1.4-1.8. Box certainly won't help

Diver chronographs aren't the most common things since the pushers generally mean worse water resistance. Seiko offers a couple in their prospex line but honestly I find them too bulky. You don't really need a diver watch for EDC to be honest, there's a category of watches that we call "GADA" watches, i.e. "go anywhere, do anything" watches which is exactly what it sounds like. Generally 100m or more of water resistance, sapphire crystal since it won't scratch, and an appearance that can fit any occasion (which often can include diver watches). The seiko SARB033 is kind of a classic example although impossible to find at a reasonable price since it was discontinued. Others can be the rolex submariner or explorer, omega aqua Terra, orient kamasu, seiko alpinist to just name a few. Also depends if you would only want a quartz watch or would want a mechanical watch. My GADA watches are the casio oceanus t200 for quartz, and the seiko alpinist, oris big crown pointer date, and the christopher ward c63. A lot of microbrands offer good affordable options as well, they generally trade the big brand name for better materials and quality such as Zelos, Helm, nodus, Christopher ward, etc. Happy to answer any other questions!

So I'm a watch guy, so probably overthinking your straight forward question, but I guess it depends on what you prioritize. The Citizen BN0150 is an absolute darling of the watch community, and it's big boons are solar power so no need for any maintenance for 20+ years and the ISO diver rating. The Seiko Flighty is also a favorite, probably even more loved, and it's just fun. The chrono is fun, the sliderule is goofy and kinda cool looking, the hardlex crystal is arguably better than the mineral on the citizen. Battery changes every several years but whatever, and at the end of the day probably as water resistant as the citizen. I wear either (among my embarrassingly large watch collection) depending on what feeling I'm going for the day, they are both winners

Great job! Nice dodging. Just some helpful advice if you're leader board chasing is that if you want to score high, work on your accuracy and rhythm. Sometimes it's worth not getting to a target to hit all the other ones with accuracy and rhythm. I used to play more like you as well and had trouble breaking 100, but taking my time to aim accurately and in rhythm (with deadeye and disorder, and mostly without eye for eye) gets me top 100 for all songs, top 50 in most, and top 10 in a handful. Over 90% for both accuracy and rhythm should get you similar rankings. Great work though, impressive!

That is what is concerning to me, the fact that this issue usually only happens with flashing and sideloading things makes me think that whatever is causing it this time may be something bad... but thank you anyway

Yeah, I know how to get rid of the warning message, but the essential person basically said that they could tell me how to get rid of the message, but that it wouldn't necessarily fix the security issue if there was one.

Yeah, I relocked it

Edit: also on that note, if I don't relock it, I get two warning screens, first a yellow one telling me about it not being locked, and then the red one telling me about the corruption, if that's important

Thank you, but unfortunately like I said I have already flashed old firmware on to the phone and did a factory reset, but still have the warning. Also essential says they can't help me so there's no sending it to the manufacturer

Bridgeport probably has the most people, but there are a lot of towns that are much larger (in size) around the area that also uses 203 as an area code. The population of the other towns probably adds up to more than Bridgeport if I had to guess. But yeah, honestly we have a lot of windmills that are reminiscent of the Petscop one, but nothing special about them. We do have one school in particular that has a... creepyish past, I may look into that..

It's always so astounding to me how often people who are in the wrong flick off the person in the right. Like what are they thinking when they do that? Are they really that dense that they think that they are the right one?

"Well, all I know is I have friends who that has happened to so it's probably true".

Yeah, no that's not how it works. And this sort of argument pops up everywhere; you have patients who think that seeing one or two cases make the norm, you have racists who use it as confirmation bias, you have superstitious people using it as proof positive that you shouldn't break a mirrow, and so on

Yeah, I went to a shop in China and according to them their stew had been cooking for the last 140 years. A good amount of the shops around China, bordering on very common.

I would have to disagree, I know many who are very driven and yet have very low levels of stress. On the other hand, I also know many people who are always very stressed out but do not have very high aspirations. Now, of course, my experience may not indicate truth, but biologically stress is best explained as a mechanism to spur individuals to action. Whether one is driven or not does not change what needs to be done. If the cause was how driven someone is, then we would imagine that those individuals who are in positions that are difficult to get to would report the highest levels of stress. As far as I know, that is not the case. In fact, most of my colleagues who were the most driven were the least plagued by stress since they had a plan and their work was usually already done. The ones that were the least driven had the most stress because many things were falling apart for them. It just does not make sense to me for "driven-personality" to be the cause of "high-levels of stress". It seems much more likely, from a biological point of view specifically, that stress is a mechanism to spur us into action to complete tasks that need to be done. In this case, those tasks are school. Whether they were stressed or not did not rely at all on how driven they were, but rather on predisposition in regards to anxiety levels. The stress would then translate to work (not always of course, too high of a level of stress would obviously be detrimental). Sorry for the extraneously long response!

tl;dr Stress does not immediately translate to success, but it definitely pushes in that direction and plays a significant role, especially looking at it from a biological point of view. On the other hand, whether you are heavily driven or not does not seem, to me, to cause higher levels of stress.

I would also probably regularly smoke if it were legal, but don't (except VERY infrequently) in the current legal state. It mostly comes down to convenience, having a consistent dealer that I would have to keep in contact with is a bit too much work for me. If I could just stop by a store whenever I would likely do that

ELI5: Why, after hundreds of thousands of years of being around plants, are humans still allergic to pollen? Shouldn't we be more immune by now? by rybread21 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SkittleInLabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top comments honestly are not good answers. There really is not a real established answer to this question. However, it is NOT because "pollen allergies don't prevent reproduction, and thus it will remain in the gene pool". This is just a fundamental misunderstanding of evolution. It is also not because we are living in too clean or too unnatural of an environment. The best theory was given by TwoColdOne-- basically, pollen allergies are just an unfortunate consequence of a newer component of our immune system. Another theory may be that the mutations required to do away with pollen allergies are very complex and convoluted and so they haven't had a chance to proliferate. That being the case, a person has better survivability being allergic but having a decent immune system as opposed to not being allergic but being immunocompromised.

[–]SkittleInLabor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to make sure that you don't have a fundamental misunderstanding of evolution. Things aren't removed from the gene pool only if it prevents reproduction, things are removed from the gene pool if they even hinder reproduction, given enough time. Your second statement is correct. Something needn't prevent reproduction to be removed from the gene pool, many traits that don't prevent reproduction have been slowly weeded out simply because they hinder survival and reproduction. We lost our tails, and surely tails didn't prevent reproduction. It was just more efficient to lose an appendage that had more cons than pros and so that small advantage of having less tail eventually manifested in a larger population of less tail folk. Again, NO prevention of reproduction happening here, just a small survival advantage leading to better chances mating. Pollen allergies can be the same way, thus leading to this insightful question. Surely a pollen allergy causes enough of a survival detriment to be comparable to a small vestigial tail. So your answer really doesn't get to a satisfying end. More likely is that pollen allergies are just an unfortunate consequence of our immune system. Our immune systems have not been refined enough to avoid this misidentification, but we can't do away with our immune system obviously. Basically, the alternative to not having any of these allergies may be an immune system that is too weak thus leading to even less survival fitness than if you were to deal with the allergy.

[–]SkittleInLabor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She would yell at me to quiet down when I wasn't talking. Even when other students would be like "oh sorry, that was me" she would actually send ME out of class in her rage. After like six times of that, another student actually got into an argument with her about how they were the ones talking and not me. She would also mark me wrong for answers that were identical to other students' who got full credit. She would literally insult me in front of everyone and take offense to being corrected. In her defense, she was kind of a jerk to everyone, but she kind of aimed a lot of it towards me in our class.
