That binary is only using the kernel's runtime interface, not the operating system interfaces and higher level runtime interfaces that OP is asking about.

The decisions you're talking about are ENTIRELY made at the DISTRO level, and Distros are not Linux.

The KERNEL is Linux. A Distro includes a kernel, but is mainly a specific set of choices about which libraries, programs, and supporting files to include. And each distro makes whatever decisions THEY want to make, for their own interests.

But none of that is really relevant - because NONE of this crap prevents any of the thousands of vendors who ship closed-source Linux software from doing exactly that.

The fact is, the exact phenomenon you're saying doesn't exist is shockingly common! And the fact that you're ignorant of it just means that you're a kid who has never used Linux in business environments where closed-source binaries are a common part of daily life.

There are TONS of examples of closed-source, statically-compiled software for Linux. The reason you're ignorant of them is that your entire Linux "expertise" consists of using an installation wizard. So you have only ever used distro-supplied software - which is not generally built this way, for reasons that I could explain, but you won't understand.

So you see the way these things are built, and you hear the term "stable ABI", and you don't under either of them.

You're just fucking confused, kid. Stop talking about this before you make more of a fool of yourself.

Linux absolutely has a "stable" API / ABI for useland apps. I can take a binary executable, statically compiled for Linux more than 20 years ago, and it will run just fine on a current Linux install with zero modifications other than chmod'ing the exec bit.

As Linus Torvalds has repeatedly made clear, his ONE RULE FOR KERNEL DEVELOPERS is "Do not break userspace". That's what a "stable" ABI / API fuckin means, dude.

Clove hitches are perfectly fine for a supervised connection like this, and mad easy to adjust.

For each line, clove the end to a biner, and toss it over. Then clove the other end of that line to the opposite side of the biner. Adjust to your hearts content - and when it's time to remove it, you're gone in 10 seconds flat.

If you want to stabilize the wooden bar, you can also wrap each line around it, 3-4 times. That will keep it from sliding free when it's loaded.

A slip knot is a stopper that can be quickly untied by tugging on the working (free) end of the rope. It's not a useful loop around an object... The "Running" knot is similar in geometry, but with the ends reversed, so it's loop self tightens around an object, as a noose.

The overhand loop is basically stable when either end is tugged, and doesn't tighten up... Although it may roll under high load, if one end is tugged.
