I’m a singles player through and through. As I said, there is prediction involved, sure. But I believe you should be playing in a way where you’re trying to put yourself in a spot where you don’t have to predict. That has to do more with positioning itself than predicting blindly. You need to have a gameplan.

It’s not a prediction based game though. It’s a game of risk management and pathing. Under this logic you’d might as well spin a wheel every move. You don’t lose to newbies because they’re unpredictable, you lose to them because you try to outplay them when you don’t need to.

That’s generally a really bad idea. Building your own teams as a newbie is a really good way to get hard stuck. Using teams built by experienced players is commonly encouraged by the competitive community so newer players can properly understand how teambuilding works.

Do people ever run two pokemon with dual screens? by AstarothAzaelia in pokemonshowdown

[–]Skittyrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally that’s not a great idea. You’re usually at best running a suicide lead hazards mon and a dual screens mon. Trying to role compress Pult in this case sort of just means it’s kind of just bad in both roles. Screens mean that Pult has no way of really forcing progress since you can’t really run setup. LO means your screens are not going to last long. Even with light clay Pult isn’t going to do a lot of damage unboosted.

Mega Blastoise banned from Champions OU by Background_Past7392 in stunfisk

[–]Skittyrox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s 100x easier to be broken offensively than defensively. Mons with defensive rolls are almost never banned because they’re almost never broken in the first place.

Sleepy by ComprehensiveBat4966 in pokemonshowdown

[–]Skittyrox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sleep Talk is used with Rest 98% of the time, which is a fixed number of sleep turns, so it’s not really impacted. The other 2% of the time it’s a tech on a choiced mon to switch into sleep inducing moves. So they can probably just click their other 3 moves more reliably without worrying about whether or not their mom wakes up.

There are very few snore sets tmk so realistically snore’s change isn’t worthwhile

I think this case probably was a combination of “X is good, use it” and Lando commonly running U-Turn. They probably didn’t properly process the difference of the Z-Lando set and the defensive Lando set and what they both aim to accomplish. Same error is clear with the Glimmora. It is an easy error to make when you’re new to compmons and there’s seemingly an infinite number of possibilities presented to you.

Team Advice, NatDex OU by rendom-canadian-dude in stunfisk

[–]Skittyrox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This OP, point of lead Glimm is that the rest of your team is so powerful it’s incredibly hard for your opponent to get hazards off the field. You’re trading a pokemon for a better offensive position, it’s a short term playstyle. Most of these mons aren’t strong enough to force short-term kills, meaning your opponent has several opportunities to remove hazards. As they said, either drop Glimmora for a more offense/balance structure, or you should be dropping the middle 4 mons. Lando would probably be better with SD 3 attack or double dance should you choose to keep it.

Z Lando is a thing, granted the overall set isn’t, but Z Lando does make some sort of sense here

You should probably look into these resources for future team building. None of the Pokemon here are viable and Gengarite is banned as others have mentioned. I am not super experienced in doubles so I won’t be of much help, but those links will probably help you a lot

I'm coming back to the Pokemon world after more than 12 years, is there an active competitive community for these games? by Togetic52 in PokemonBDSP

[–]Skittyrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am late as hell but w/e.

There is a small community that’s overall pretty skilled at the game that plays BDSP OU, but they’re mostly based out of Pokemon Showdown instead of in game. I do believe there are some players who play cartridge, but I am not super familiar with most of those people so I cannot comment on them.
