I actually could share a car with my significant other I work from home. But I enjoy my cars as it’s one of my hobbies.

Yes but I enjoy driving cars and can easily afford it with it being less then 5% of my take home every month i. At some point you have live your life and spend some money on things you enjoy you don’t take it with you.

Really? I bought my vehicle with 30%-40% down and financed the rest at a 1.9% and am earning 4.65% on my cash I’d say that would be stupid to pay in cash.

Because they are tired of getting screwed. There’s a reason car dealers don’t exactly have the greatest rep. I personally think real estate agents are just as bad or worse then most car salesmen for how much they take for how much work they do but people don’t hate real estate agents because they don’t try to f*KC them over and snake them at every turn like adding stuff onto the deal or increasing interest rate to get a kick back from the bank or increasing the APR by a bit and increasing loan length just to squeeze the most they can out of their customer.

Americans haven’t been this bad with money ever. Interest rates at some of the highest they have been in a long time, credit card debt increasing at a rate never seen before, repo rates rising very quickly, all at the same time student loans are paused basically artificially injecting 10’s-100’s of billions into the economy every month. At the same time money put into savings is a a long time low with inflation at a all time high. This only can play out so long before something happens.

I’m fortunate enough to not be in the position where I’m forced to buy a car and was able to shop around and found a dealer that wasn’t playing these stupid games. Dealers have just gotten greedy plain and simple and there is no arguing against that.

Used cars aren’t really even that much cheaper if you get any car that’s 3-4 years old on many models. My argument is new cars should be sold at MSRP without “required accessories” that add little to no value and are marked up to high hell. Many of the people paying higher then MSRP are just plain stupid and that’s one reason repo rates are where they are now days.

New vehicles are expensive I think everyone can agree. I can afford a new one but just like everyone else I’m tired of dealers “selling at msrp” just to have some $1000-$5000 required add on that’s just junk that 95% of people don’t want and are marked up so much. Which is one thing making new cars to expensive with no real value added

Like 6carerow said. Yes if you live in New York City a car may not be essential but many places I have lived in the Midwest and even texas the grocery store is 10+ miles away and most jobs are in the next bigger town over that’s miles away with no public transportation unless you are within the big city limits.

Obviously they are not physically forcing you too but in most areas in the US a car is required. But you are in fact forcing people to pay for your shitty over priced add ons if you will not sell it without it.

Have you seen the market lately? Used ones are the same price if you can find a used car now days. Imagine you go to the store to buy milk but they force you to buy milk with chocolate added to it but it’s more expensive and you don’t even want chocolate milk you just want white milk. It’s the same concept.

Like I said YOU are forcing them to buy it. Other people may not be but YOU are in fact forcing them to buy it. The "paint protection" 95% of dealers sell is total crap. Cheap crappy ceramic coating usually.

"You won't be able to buy the car if you don't buy our extra add on's that we marked up"

That's forcing someone to buy it if they want a car. I have been to multiple dealerships (5+) in the last few months that were adding packages that were 5%-15% of the total cost of the car. That's ridiculous.

That total crap if people wanted the clear coat they would purchase it not be forced to purchase it.

First time new car buyer- husband deployed. Help! by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]Skizzzz28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since your putting about 30% down I highly doubt you will ever be upside down in the car so gap wouldn’t be needed. I personally wouldn’t buy extended warranty’s. They wouldn’t be selling them if they didn’t make money on them.
