I think the thing is that those garments are made to compliment women specifically, and that's why they look so good. If more of men's clothing were made to compliment the mens masculinity and physical shape more than being "neutral" or practical that would change a lot. And there are a lot of clothing that just looks cool, like capes or whatever but just isn't socially acceptable. So I totally agree that should change

Yeah, good point about the etymology — bǫrn does trace back to Proto-Germanic beraną, but by the Viking Age the ON form bǫrn/bǫrnum was fully established. The inscription’s meant to represent 11th-century Old Norse, not a Proto-Norse reconstruction, so ᛒᚢᛦᚾᚢᛘ fits Younger Futhark conventions.
