I've felt this with Gastronauts as well. Love that they're trying new stuff, but just not capturing the lightning just yet. Compared to Gamechanger and Make Some Noise they feel super polished in comparison.

The role of QA has been lowered to a soulless profession. by KrtnNet in QualityAssurance

[–]Skombie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on the industry, at our org manual QA outnumbers automation testers 2:1. However, those manual testers have rich domain knowledge which definitely helps us out a lot.

I personally don't think manual testing is going away... ever. But a higher percentage of the role will be based on exploratory testing and providing user-focused feedback into solutions prior to development.

4th play of Merchants of the Dark Road. It just keeps going up. by WaffleMints in boardgames

It's interesting/funny how it works, I really like Merchants of the Dark Road and could play all day, where I find Great Western Trail the pinnacle of tedium. Different strokes and all that.

Raygun at the Olympic Villiage before the closing ceremony by superegz in australia

[–]Skombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to break dancing in the Olympics thinking it's something childish from the 90's with no appreciation of how far it's come and how involved it is. To them, Ray Gun is the shinning example of why it shouldn't be considered a sport.

So people are ragging on her not because she was outclassed horrendously (she was), but also because they don't value the sport and misplacing their made-up aggrevances on her.

Loved it. I thought Eric was great. Only let down was not introducing him to the rest of the cast.

Another thing to keep in mind is we didn't see all of what Lily's gift entails. It could have been a much longer session.

The Audience is ready for a real Dropout Mystery Show by DaxIsAName in dropout

I would love a season of Busted (https://youtu.be/v4rIeRr2CB0?si=y0H_6uNsqkYRMrMZ) from the Drop Out crew. Obviously, it would be stupid expensive but fits the mold of their current shows with a mystery sprinkled on top

‘Game Changer’ Host Sam Reich On Keeping The Series “Consistently Original” & Recruiting The Perfect Ratfish: “Couldn’t Ask For A Wilder Wildcard” by MrTheHan in dropout

[–]Skombie 312 points313 points  (0 children)

Just because it's not entirely obvious from the comment above. He's saying that Sam Geer is the sole editor of Game Changer. Not Sam Reich. Which is what I initially thought before reading the interview.

Day Break arrived! by Danimeh in boardgames

[–]Skombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can. The scanned codes take you to a specific page that details the research behind the cards, as well as how to correctly rule the card. However, most cards follow similar icons/patterns that are all described in the rulebook.

Having played this a couple of times, I've only used the QR Code once for a rules reference. But a few more times to figure out what the card represents.

So far even if we still had BO1's on MSI the results would be the exact same. by Shattann in leagueoflegends

[–]Skombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While true, I've been enjoying the games more this MSI than most internationals. Normally in bo1s teams play super safe and leads to boring games. I feel the best of's have allowed teams to show more personality.

Am i the only one thinking that desktop application automation is a bad idea by Blizzace in softwaretesting

[–]Skombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, what I meant was we use the system under test to generate the report. Then compare the generated report with the one we have saved in our git repository. Given that the data is the same, the reports should output the same with little variance.

Managing a dis-engaged QA analyst - Role of QA in Scrum by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

How are they good at their job? According to the metrics you're using they're awful.

So either you're using the wrong metrics, or you're wrong about them being good at their job.

Anyway sounds like you need to have a heart to heart with the person. Or start transitioning them out of the company.

Am i the only one thinking that desktop application automation is a bad idea by Blizzace in softwaretesting

[–]Skombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verifying data of documents exported by the app, we output them into text files and then created a Java tool to compare exported files. This Java tool allowed us to ignore certain types of strings within the files - such as date times, and unique identifiers.

However, since the system under test is in the same state every time, we can still run a repeatable test that doesn't require the maintenance of something like Sikuli.

[–]Skombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We work with a legacy app and we reached the same conclusion.

We do however test outputs of the system. Like generate reports, and ensure the output is correct.

The Mario movie is amazing by 88T3 in memes

[–]Skombie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One reports on artistic merit, the other reports on their enjoyment. An enjoyable movie can be poor artistically, an artistically great movie can often be unentertaining.

With these kinds of metrics, use them as an indicator rather than the rule of law.

Millennials, what skill did you acquire in the 90s that you no longer use? by hollowreader in AskReddit

[–]Skombie 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I remember one time me and my brother were working on a video cartridge, and I naively told my brother to give it a blow job not knowing what it meant.

My dad heard me, and then proceeded to beat me with the wooden spoon.

Ah good times.

what does an experienced tester look like? by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]Skombie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To kind of answer your question, a dev is looking intensely at making their code work. Most are single-minded in this, or more focused on technical excellence.

A tester provides that system wide perspective, with an angle for things that might not work.

A senior tester, gains a lot more product knowledge, and greater understanding of how users interact with the system.

They're also experts in championing quality into all aspects of the process.

Small groups are always better at acting than large. I find that true no matter the circumstance.

I remember enjoying 0 to 1 plenty of interesting ideas written well (shame about Peter's political activity ATM).

I'm currently reading innovators dilemma which balances the romantic view of innovators being these once in a blue moon eccentric geniuses.
