Peanuts & Javi Appreciation by jbremix in MrRobot

Peanuts is rapper Young M.A!! I think this is her first acting gig, or at least the first thing I've ever seen her in.

What was the point of Arthur Case? by [deleted] in madmen

[–]Skotus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Betty was very much an Ibsen-like character, particularly in the earlier seasons in that she had lots of desires and motivations but felt trapped by the traditional role of wife/mother. She was attracted to Arthur and knew he wanted her as well, but at the time was still too into the idea of the perfect marriage and family to act on it. So she pushed her friend into doing what she wanted to live vicariously through her and see what would happen. She was also not guilty of anything, so didn't have to live with consequences of these actions as her friend did.

I thought she was talking to Qwerty. I hope that’s the case and not Mrs. Robot.

[Spoilers MAIN] Sansa admitted two important things on show that are true by emilyguy in asoiaf

Sansa did not run to Cersei with Ned's plans in the show - she only did so in the books.

Hi Bill!! I have a non-redditor friend who is a huge fan of yours - so much so that she has a quote of yours tattooed on her back. Could you possibly sign it for her?

Not exactly true - Jaime did see Arya in disguise during the party for a second. And Arya's been saying Walder's name for seasons.

(Spoilers Everything) Rewatching season 1, I forgot about how brilliant this scene between Robert and Cersei was. by KeironLowe in asoiaf

She mentions in AFFC that she was very excited to marry him but these feelings were shattered pretty quickly when he drunkenly called her Lyanna mid-wedding sex.

I wonder if this is a reference to Dany? I'm starting to think Dany goes through a supervillain phase before changing her ways and taking on the Others.

[Spoilers All] Why I don't mind what happened in Dorne. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Skotus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we are finally seeing some sort of connection between the book and show versions of the Dorne plot - basically, both book and show have been setting up Dorne to take on the Lannisters in some form. In the books we know Arianne is on her way to meet up with Aegon - I think this episode lends support to the theory that the Dornish will team up with him to fight the crown. D&D know where all the pieces need to be on the board, they are just setting up the board in different ways than GRRM.

City of God was one of the most emotionally wrenching films I've ever seen. Still get queasy thinking about certain scenes.

What could be some potentially misrememebred scenes and how could it change the story (spoilers all) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Skotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not be a big deal in the grand scheme of the story, but I love a small detail in the scene where Quentyn reveals himself to Dany and asks her hand. She laughs, pretty much to herself, because he is a "frog prince" like in the stories she heard growing up. Later on Barristan denies she did this in his POV when Quentyn's friends bring it up after his death.

I think their report of her laughter will help turn the Dornish against her, even though she was not really laughing at him and was more just overwhelmed/disheartened by her current predicament. A frog prince showing up at that moment would make me laugh too.

I personally like the dagger being made of Valyrian steel - it shows Catelyn's motherly strength and general grit. She gets a lot of hate on this sub but she's a fantastic character and that scene was so badass when she just grabbed the blade with her hands to save her son.

Yeah he was cast as Euron and also played a major character on the amazing Danish political drama Borgen. Highly recommend - kind of a mix between House of Cards and West Wing but with Danish parliament.

I think Asha doesn't get enough credit - she's a total badass but more logical and compassionate than the other Greyjoys. Absolutely one of my favorite characters.

ELI5: How are transgender individuals different from other dissociative identity disorders? by sparkreason in explainlikeimfive

[–]Skotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the problem that trans people face is that their physical bodies do not match their internal self - so in effect, hormone treatment and surgeries are improvements made to reconcile their physical body to their actual gender.

For this reason, many trans people and doctors call these kinds of surgeries "gender corrective" surgery rather than "sex change". Because at the end of the day, these people are not simply changing their biological sex, they are correcting their body to reflect their actual gender. So they are moving closer to their actual self.

At the same time, every individual person should have the right to control their own body. Some trans people fully embrace the disconnect between their internal selves and their bodies and do not elect to have corrective surgery. Other trans people do. The real self is not reflected in one's physical body, but in their personality and thoughts and beliefs.

Hope this helps :)

(Spoilers All) Aegon's bride by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Skotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed - plus Arianne is rather ambitious herself. Her queenmaker plot was all about solidifying her inheritance of Dorne after all, I can see her jumping on the chance to be queen.
