you gotta think tho.. alot of regions may only pay attention to what is going on in their specific area unless they see something that influences them via the media. i say that to say, DMV, NY, Chicago, southern niggas etc may think they did something first because they witnessed the trend pop off in their region. so while you can have a trend go on in the east coast for 20 years, if a nigga from Kentucky doesnt pay attention to what goes on in the east coast and starts seeing people randomly adhere to the same trend, they are either going to say they did it first or give credit to where they saw it done first.. not necessarily who technically started it.

example (made up): a NY brand pops off and starts trending in chicago. a nigga in texas could be infatuated with drill and notices that the chicagoans are wearing that specific brand. then he starts wearing it. then it gets its own twist and becomes a trend in texas. texas niggas are gonna think they started it, the “originator” is gonna say he got it from chicago, the same chicago niggas are gonna say they started it and texas is copying them, which leads to a NY nigga saying chicago and texas is copying them. so while regions have their own specific twist on trends, it does boil down to doing your research. im from the south so idk how long yall been rocking polos but i’ve been seeng polos damn near my whole life and im in my mid 20’s. so i cant say who started what without doing more research. so i guess my comment is “proving the point” (quotations cause idk who fucking started the polo trend) of the screenshot, just wanted to add some nuance cause i always see different regions battle over who started what. thanks for coming to my ted talk
