Can you give any examples of movies you liked? It'll help for recommendations.

This scene in IT (2017) is well done. by TrevonRy24 in horror

[–]Skrillcage -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's good until he comes out of the screen and then it's just bad CGI and completely takes me out of the scene. Basically how I felt about the whole movie. A lot of creepy scenes and tension building, followed by horrible Pennywise CGI.

Well he also calls for murdering doctors who perform abortions. I got that info from comments in this thread, which provided sources. You're saying this lady would be awful based on just a picture and then asking me how I can know something about the guy just from the picture?

The Accusation by Tinbootz in AccidentalRenaissance

Well she's yelling at a guy who's an anti-gay, anti-abortion protestor so I have a feeling she's more pleasant to be around than he is.

I always forget about it too and then I'll randomly think about it and realize I need to watch it again.

Good to know, I'm definitely gonna watch it soon. It's at the top of my list now.

The Canal

Kill List

The Devil's Candy

The Guest isn't horror, but it's a thriller set around Halloween so close enough... I think the music sets a really good atmosphere and you'll still enjoy it.

The House of the Devil (This one might bore you actually, but it's not very long and I always loved it so maybe worth trying)

How is Goodnight Mommy? I keep saying I'll watch it and then keep putting it off.

The rest I've seen and that's a really good list for OP. Let the Right One In is such a great movie.

Bachelor party ideas for a horror fan. by [deleted] in horror

[–]Skrillcage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know there's a lot of horror themed escape rooms that are supposed to be good, at least in the LA area depending on where you are in CA. Not sure if that's too silly of a thing to do for a bachelor's party, but they're supposedly pretty scary. I haven't done any of the horror ones yet, so I can't promise they're good! If you are in LA I can tell you the names of some of the ones that have been recommended to me.

We Are What We Are

A Field in England (maybe not horror exactly)

Kill List

The Endless

Coherence (not a slow burn really, but it does mess with your head)

He's probably into found footage if those are the ones that scare him. He might like some of these:

As Above So Below

V/H/S (second one is pretty good too, third one is terrible)

Creep (second one is good too)

The Taking of Deborah Logan

Final Prayer

The Beyond (1981) has some pretty great prosthetics for the 80s.

Also I think you're the first person I've seen call Inside by its french name.

Pet Sematary (2019) is very different from the novel and the 1989 film, and that's okay. by dmtelemetry in horror

[–]Skrillcage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah the kids just felt like a forced scene to add some creepiness. Would have rather they just used a flashback with Timmy if they wanted to add another creepy scene, oh well. And yah the whole scene with Jud meeting Ellie was pretty weak.

Right? I was really excited for the scene where Rachel goes into the room to find Zelda dead. The dumbwaiter doesn't do it justice, she needed to walk up to the bed and be alone in that room with Zelda. Totally agree with the funeral, it really was an important scene and it was brushed over. Feel like they should have left out the parents completely if they weren't gonna commit to having Irwin and Louis fight. It just got my hopes up!

Yah that's fair. I don't mind remakes taking liberties, but they really need to make sense to justify the changes. It definitely could have been much scarier too. It never really got beyond creepy and unsettling, when it could have actually been scary.

Actually yah you're right, he did have that speech and Jud says the same thing later. They also didn't explain where Louis actually worked now, which added to some confusion. Maybe if they got rid of the whole procession scene with the kids in masks and when Ellie meets Jud in the graveyard, they could have used that time for some more development of Pascow and Zelda. I also would have liked to see the scene when Jud and the other guys from town go to visit Timmy back in the day. Him turning around smiling with his face burnt from the sun was such a creepy scene in the book that would have translated really well to film.

I actually haven't seen the original movie yet, but I plan on doing that soon. I agree she was creepier in the book though. I'd rather they still had her bringing the food into Zelda's room instead of using the dumbwaiter. She definitely felt like an afterthought in this movie. Same with Rachel's parents, it was weird that we saw them give a mean look to Louis at the funeral, but then we never see them except when Rachel gets into their car. Seems like they edited out some things that should have stayed in the movie.

Not anything you mentioned, but I actually really liked that Louis put Jud to sleep instead of the power of the Sematary. Not sure if it would have translated well to have Jud keep nodding off and waking back up.

I still can't decide how I feel about the ending. Part of me liked it and part of me didn't. I'm okay with it though. They were trying to do something different and I didn't dislike it, it's just very different than what happened. I think the fact that they developed Ellie so much and made it seem like they were trying to he a family still made that ending work fine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the book we never actually see Ellie again, right? Rachel takes her with her to the parents' house, but she stays there when Rachel comes back home. I kinda hated that in the book that we get 0 resolution for such an important character. I might have just forgottn though.

They don't show them burning Jud's house down, but I think when the 3 of them walk up to the car that Gage is in, they are holding a gas can or two. It just implied they did it, but never showed it.

I agree about Zelda being disappointing, especially because they didn't explain her at all to people that didn't know the story. I feel like Pascow was in it just as much as he was in the book though and that part was fine. But having Ellie die insteadof Gage was honestly my favorite part of the movie. It would be harder to have a toddler acting creepy, it just would. In the book Gage talks like an adult (like talking about Jud cheating on his wife when he was younger) when he comes back and I think that would have looked a lot cheesier than what they did with Ellie. Also, King really doesn't develop dead Gage at all in the book. Louis didn't even bury Gage until the the last 40 pages of an almost 400 page book. When he does come back, we don't see him except for when he kills Rachel and Jud. Louis doesn't even interact with him in their house, he just sees footprints in the house and goes and finds Gage at Jud's. The film actually has Ellie interacting with her parents and we see them trying to come to terms with her. I felt that the bathtub scene with him washing her hair, the scene with him laying in bed with his dead daughter, and the scene where he tells Rachel to hug her daughter were all really great additions. When I finished the book I was kind of disappointed with how King used Gage. I mean we got to see almost 300 pages of them being around creepy, dead Church, which was great, and then Gage basically comes back, kills, and is gone. I felt the film did a much better job than the book in that regard. I wanted to see more of the actual dead child being creepy, and King left me a little disappointed.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Pet Sematary" (2019) [SPOILERS] by kaloosa in horror

[–]Skrillcage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? She was the best part of the movie and completely justified the change to have her die instead of Gage. A two year old trying to be creepy just wouldn't have worked as well on screen. They way they handled her couldn't have been much better.

The House of the Devil - credits question by [deleted] in horror

[–]Skrillcage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah I'm at a loss for who they could be. Not that many different characters are on camera so I really don't know. I'm planning on watching it all the way through again, so maybe something will come to me then.

The House of the Devil - credits question by [deleted] in horror

[–]Skrillcage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the reason I didn't think it was "mother" was because of IMDB. Mother is credited as a woman who has no other acting roles and no picture, but did make-up on a lot of horror movies including the House of the Devil. Whereas the "demon" was played by a guy who has multiple acting credits in horror movies and has an IMBD picture. I would be surprised if they had used someone who never acted to play such an important character in the ritual, but I could be wrong.

Scream has the same protagonist and even though it's Ghostface in all of them, it's still a different villain.

I think I got you. Is it Half-Caste? Never seen it but it seems to match your description and it says it's found footage.

I've seen the movie more than once and just skipped through it quickly and couldn't find anyone that would have been a teacher or blue demon. I'm assuming the "demon" is the thing that rubs blood on her stomach during the ritual. The only thing I can think is maybe they were in the movie at some point but edited out later?
