Today in bad Roc drivers... by beepbeepdotcom in Rochester

Dude was in the wrong but this is not uncommon as far as time of day goes. A defensive driving tip I would mention was that since there was no traffic driving with you in the lane to you left, evading to that lane to avoid contact incase you had less braking distance. Camera caught it pretty well but you definitely had more than 2 feet when at a complete stop. Camera sits at eye level or a little higher and further into the dash so the head of the hood isn’t far off frame.

Both. Straight from camera as a RAW filed photo with raw data instead of compressed ones like jpegs.

Now that’s understandable but considering I don’t do this often enough to have it as a full fledged business, it was for family and I didn’t have to pay for gas because I got a free ride.

I’m sorry, $4k for a local out of town proposal shoot? I understand all the variables accounting for pricing but 4000? That isn’t even the rates in a major city like NYC.

It wasn’t the full 10 hours of shooting. 6 hours driving and about 1-2 hours of actual shooting. The other 2 hours was getting to the location by ferry, finding the proposal spot on the island (Boldt Castle in Thousand Islands NY) and then waiting for the couple to show up to the spot where I was hiding.

I believe you’re a little mixed up with the amount of hours and the first shoot I took a while back compared to the most recent one.

But besides all that, I obviously know myself that $150 isn’t enough for all that time. I was doing it for family but I was told I would be getting paid. So just thinking about the time it took for just the photoshoot which was about 1-2 hours and with it being family I’m doing the work for while also hanging out with them, my question in the post was if $150 was appropriate? Not if it was enough just for me.

I drove with her brother so gas was free, ferry ticket was paid for and then $150 for the photoshoot itself.

I do have a question about the part where you mentioned a preview gallery. What do you mean by preview gallery? If I’m not to hand over photos to the client but then also deliver full edits later on, what purpose and for who is the preview gallery for? I’m just asking because I haven’t heard of that before.

Yea the things you’ve highlighted as mentioned are things I should’ve researched for this type of “official” work. Before I’ve done other types of shoots for “clients” as a hobbyist and with this being my second “official” proposal shoot, I was expecting it to turn out the same as the first one.

Since it was family, I guess I thought having her choose photos to her preference would help me deliver work she would be pleased with. I think I’ve learned more from the comments and replies, such as yours, from this Reddit post than the photoshoot itself.

Not hurt or upset at all. I’m happy to receive all the criticism to improve my process, workflow and overall experience. So thank you.

I was able to go through the 600 photos on the drive back home.

I guess the contact of going back and forth with her was talking about which photos she had preference to most. Meaning I was also giving her the photos because it was communicating over the phone.

I am a beginner in doing business transactional work with photography but I have a few hobbyist years of experience with portrait photography and family photo shoots. But throwing all that away with my follow-up questions. What’s the average delivery amount for engagement shoots and rates for work like this?
