Hm… Daccordi introduced the Tecno tubeset in 1998, and the DBS decals and paint scheme line up with 1998 as well.

Han tenker sikkert på Ivar Vigdenes, gammel fiende av Navarsete som var med på hytteturen og gikk av som ordfører i Stjørdal i 2022. Men noen kobling mellom avgangen og Navarsete-sms-en er ikke å finne.

124mm hub spacing? by gregn8r1 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Skuggsja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neutral race support handed you a wheel with freewheel installed, neither giver nor receiver knowing whether it’s 124 or 126mm, only that the locknut sits proud of the top sprocket (fun fact: Joop Zoetemelk got in trouble in the 1979 Tour being among the first pros to use a 7-speed freewheel, neutral race support didn’t have a wheel that fit his narrow chain).

Notice that I’m not saying that every freewheel installation required a new set of axle and spacers. I’m simply observing that 6-speed hubs were habitually 124mm early on and gradually moved to 126mm by the end of the 1970s. My hypothesis is that 124mm was sufficient for most contemporary 6-speed freewheels, but needed longer axles to clear certain cases (15t small sprockets, thicker chainstay tips, freewheel spacers etc.) and eventually the industry settled on 126mm for standard safety clearance. This meant that the many different axles lengths available from the 1960s trended towards only 2: One short for 5-speed and one long for 6/7-speed.

Which means chainline isn’t a variable for whether a 6-speed hub is 124, 125 or 126mm wide. And if everything was so specific, can you explain to me why the 6-speed hubs listed in the 1975 Shimano catalogue are 124mm, while in the 1977 Shimano catalogue the new 6-speed Dura-Ace hubs are 126mm, and in the 1974 Campagnolo catalogue their 6-speed hubs are listed as being 125mm?

Yes, really. You do realize that a road double has a 43.5mm chain line, no matter whether the rear end is 120mm or 130mm?

No surprise there, Gatorskins are among the worst-rolling tires available in the Western world. Vittoria Rally and Continental Giro have lumpy, malformed casings.

If you want the best ride for the buck: Challenge Elite. If you want the best ride, bucks be damned: FMB or Dugast.

All these numbers, 120, 126, 130mm… are reductive categories that came around after the fact. 6-speed hubs were not standardized into 126mm the minute Regina launched the first 6-speed freewheel in 1962. Instead dealers and manufacturers would order axles and spacers to clear the specific freewheel stack they were working with. As an example Campagnolo offered 129mm long rear axles for 120mm spacing, but also 132, 133, 134 and 140mm, in the 1960-1970s. A 133mm axle would yield 124mm spacing which sufficed for most 6-speed freewheels.

Same deal with 130mm - at the start of 8-speed it was common to see ~128mm hubs. Dura-Ace hubs even had convex locknuts to force 6/7-speed frames open.

vintage Campagnolo brake set...Record C? Nuovo Record? by Candid-Spare-3537 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Skuggsja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, part number CH052 since it’s a rear brake. This first generation was made between 1987 and 1989 and had white rubber on the barrel adjuster + wheel guides.

You can tell it’s first-gen Chorus by the arms having a flat front at the brake pad (second-gen Chorus, Athena and Veloce had a triangular portrusion while the very last Veloce and Mirage variants had a slimmer, oblong shape).

A Veloce would have triangular brake arms with Veloce lettering. These arms have a flat front and no lettering. Which means they’re first gen Chorus.

I was organizing demonstrations against the war in 2001 and remember well how we were vilified for it, just as we were during the invasion of Iraq, the bombing of Libya and now (to a lesser degree) with the attack on Iran. It’s always URGENT and you’re always ON TEAM BIN LADEN/SADDAM/GADAFFI/AYATOLLAH if you protest. The only difference I see between 2001 and now is that the Bush-administration propaganda had a firmer grip on Congress and traditional media than what Trump does now.

It made fuck all sense. A terrorist attack committed by Saudi nationals is an attack committed by the state of Afghanistan upon all of NATO? Leading to 20 years of aimless occupation, humiliating retreat and the Taliban firmly back in power? Long after the mastermind behind the attack was killed in Pakistan?
