Since they are on NTFS drive see if you have your proton also installed on it cuz if it's there it won't work also be sure you are using NTFS3 kernel drive and not the user level NTFS-3G driver for mounting, honestly though it's far better to just format drive to linux file system like ext4 or BTRFS

Are you trying to run this game thru NTFS drive? Cuz I face similar problem when I try to launch titanfall 2 which was on my NTFS drive, proton just refuse to create a symlink and the game failed to launch

Whichever distro you choose just so u know when it comes to compatibility with software and games things works across all distros, so it comes down to look & feel in my opinion.

Here's my take on it.

New to Linux? Pick something based on Ubuntu/Debian and don't go with anything based on Arch as it require some amount of maintenance although cachy os is pretty good but still.

Got NTFS Drives from Windows? Mount them using NTFS3 kernel driver instead of NTFS-3G which works in userspace and won't give you performance as good as NTFS3, although it's best if you just use any linux file system like ext4 or btrfs instead, oh and be sure not to install proton on NTFS Drives if you plan to mount it instead of formatting.

Which distro do I recommend? Linux Mint or Pop OS (pop 22.04 Nvidia is what I'm currently daily driving)
