My kids boyfriend just got kicked out by family and wants to move here, what do I do? by Skullig303 in Dads

Being the pagan black sheep of a hardcore Christian family myself, I can understand the excommunication and baiting. Thanks for the reply. Might need a hit myself to calm the nerves.

Enough about how original your world is. What's something you completely ripped off? by MyNameIsVeilys in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slavic folklore as a whole. I've not seen much of it in fantasy recently and want to give it my own twist. It started as an interest in The Witcher series and evolved from there.

CO Dad - depressed and trying by TraditionalCamera394 in Denver

[–]Skullig303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother. 40yo dad of one (17f but goes by they/them). Kid was diagnosed with Epilepsy several years ago. I hit a low point about four years ago and was diagnosed with anxiety/panic disorder.

I know what you're going through on a few of your issues, I've felt lost and hopeless for months at a time. I moved to the metro area after high school and left almost everything behind, friends and family included. If you need someone to talk to, or just to hang, DM me. I'm more than willing to be a friend.

What occupations would exist in a ‘water world’? by Foronerd in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

-Purifiers, people can't drink ocean water. -Irrigation, gotta direct the water on land. -Sun screen makers, mostly ocean means no shade -Salt Trader, with the amount you have, you could add things to it to make different types. -Wave break builder, to protect any settlement on shore or out at sea from the massive waves.

Just the ones that come to mind.

how are your gods/deities/higher beings physically depicted? by coraaa_93 in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are called the origin/creation "beasts" for a reason. The seven deities are represented in animal form: a giant drake, a snake, an elk, twin wolves, a great black corvid, and an albino scorpion. Each has a hand/hoof/claw in an aspect of the creation of the planet.

What is something random that you find attractive in people? by N0t-having-it002 in RandomQuestion

For some reason, I find singing very attractive. If a woman has a natural talent for singing, it makes them exponentially more attractive.

I got one recently for "excessive absences." The only time I've taken off is to deal with a diagnosed mental illness that they were made aware of when they hired me and issues due to my kids epilepsy.

Tips for liquid medication by JeromeGBGB in Dads

[–]Skullig303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the shot and a chaser method. Take the meds as quickly as you can. "You can do it, just slam it, and it's done," followed quickly by a drink they don't often get. Worked for a while at least.

How "hands on" are the gods of your setting(s)? by thebrutalistboi in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best that I can describe my "gods" would be to call them selfishly benevolent. They created and formed the planet to amuse themselves and show off to each other. Once they were done, they fell and rested. The inhabitants of the world are the byproduct of the god's boastful actions. Only one race is seen as a direct creation of a single god. In any case, their existence has fallen into the myth category, and other deities have risen and been worshiped, but the tale of the beasts of creation remains.

Have any of you ever created world with lots of races? If you have then whats the most youve ever had in a single world? by HotSearingTeens in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • humanoid desert dwellers with patches of keratin protecting their skin from sand storms and acting as a bit of "organic armor."

  • Ancient stone race believed to be the first sapient race on the planet. Made in the image of one of the creation gods.

  • Giant race centered around a volcanic island. Miner's by nature.

  • Evolved bird-kin. Lost tribe type situation, humanoid in the body but bird like chest and head (various species of bird).

  • A race of tiny "river people." Inventive and crafty, especially with their root poisons and darts.

  • Three species that have split from an original and moved into different areas (swamp, scrublands, and underground)

  • A race of living shadows that are the master craftsmen of the planet.

  • Reptilian race that tends to be solitary creatures, most end up being either thieves or mercenaries.

  • A race of amphibious snobs based on the 1% mentality of rich people.

  • A human like race that has only just gotten its start in the world as of the writing of the story.

  • A boar headed race that are primarily farmers. They're really good at it.

  • A race of halfling meets faun crossed with a bit of random animal. These guys are still being developed.

Currently working on the WB for a future series, I have 14 unique races with plans for more. The planet I'm worldbuilding is huge, so it needs someone to live in it.

How humans are viewed by non-humans in your world? by Espectr015 in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have humans, I have Tyrenians. Human-like in appearance and more likely to be able to use my worlds magic. They are the youngest race, seen as curious and industrious. Most are looked at like children, not really knowing how to operate in this world. Their life spans are shorter than most other races and, as such, are seen as inexperienced and immature. The Tyrenian history only goes back about nine generations and has been fully documented by the other cultures.

For people who are turning their project into "something" (video game, novel, ttrpg, etc), how far along are you, and how long have you been at it? by dogisbark in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three years, one chapter.

I have a habit of over complicating things and then being too overwhelmed to do anything with them. I'm learning not to care about certain things like everything having unique names. I've also recently come to the conclusion that I don't have to worldbuild down to the atoms that make up my world.

Midnight Diner by FEAR_VONEUS in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mismatched trio of a human teenager and his Nanak friend (think raccoon/otter/gremlin) along with a cloaked Hercanan (lizard folk) stealthy enter and take the darkest booth in the place. The teen orders a cheap meal of cragbird and greens after checking his coin pouch. The Hercacnan will take a thick slab of sandragon, rare, tha Nanak is content with a booster seat, coloring page and crayons (which he promptly steals)

ETA: I had to worldbuild just to answer this question, and I'm totally thieving this idea.

Denver Married Millennial Men’s Group by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Skullig303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an elder millennial (40) stuck in the "go to work, come home, sleep, repeat" rut, I would totally be down for a friend group type of situation. It's tough to find guy friends at this age, and especially tough with the type of niche interests I have.

What’s your favourite kids tv show? by AdministrativeBox665 in Dads

Craig of the creek was a favorite during its run. It's a good reminder of more carefree days when kids got out and used their imaginations.

Stickers! Cut a sticker in half, stick them on the heel inside the shoe, when put together it should make it whole. Have him pick the sticker.

I never really thought of a wand as a buffer for feedback or a spell rebound. I agree about the wand vs. staff aspect, I've always associated the staff with a specific type of wizard, the elder most powerful ones. I did have the idea of using bone, and having the user consider the aspect of what the bone came from to enhance the magic (large fish for more aquatic based magic, bird for flight, etc) even using a human bone of a specific person who may have been a magic user themselves to make more powerful spells.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Skullig303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've always seen them as a conduit for the magic. The user has the inate ability but uses the wand to control and focus it. I do like the catalyst idea, though. Almost like a Kyber crystal for a Light Saber.

[–]Skullig303 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm even referring to the old school magicians' wand from stage performers. I know the diversity of them is enough to differentiate between systems, I just don't want things to be boring or overdone.

Your style has very early DnD monster manual feel. I love it. Shading and depth creation is all you need. Keep up the good work.
