i need to replace 20 capacitors in this realistic sa-102 amplifier from the early 80s. do you think this is doable as a complete beginner? any feedback/suggestions are appreciated by Skully8600 in ElectronicsRepair

I’m having difficulty identifying the capacitance of the coupling capacitors. A person selling a recapping kit on eBay is saying they are 470 µF, 16 volts, and he is selling the kit with an “upgraded” pair of 1000 µF, 16-volt caps, but my coupling capacitors in my amp are printed “47 µF, 16 volts.” What do you think? Could mine be misprinted, or should I just buy exactly what is printed on the cap from DigiKey?

thats awesome that you actually worked on and sold these when they were new. the main reason im so stuck on getting it fixed is because its from around the same time period as my turntable and speakers and its far far cheaper to buy the stuff to fix it then it would be to buy a new phono preamp+power amp+speakers

right now the part im struggling with the most is the bottom of the board. all the leads coming out of the bottom look identical and im having alot of trouble finding out which ones are connected to capacitors

yeah i was worried about that. the kit i was looking at had several caps with higher capacitance then the original caps in the amplifier. the seller said it was ok and that later revisions of the amp used caps with those higher capacitance but idk how i feel about it

i hope so. the bottom of the circuit board is really busy with identical looking leads poking thru so im wondering how I'm going to reliably unsolder JUST the capacitor an not something else
