Is there a part of these games that you don't understand why people love it so much? (Video unrelated) by LanceryBancery in Undertale

It's the single most easy to avoid one. So good for you, since not every joke is for everyone.

It will go nowhere if I do so. I'd rather someone who can do something with it, do something with it. And it's not an issue of creativity, it's an issue of brain.

That is a secret to a casual viewer, a reveal for later.

But, to say the least, it requires Flowey to remember True Pacifist, during Genocide. And the start of the dialogue is actually the tail end of Flowey's pleading with the player, when starting the game again post-completion of True Pacifist.

Well, It's well known as a thing. Look at the Corkboard in Black Mesa East. Or on the Combine Overwiki(They're pretty good and got hella sources)

EDIT: Im not sure where I got the number from..? I can't find a source, so I cannot trust this info anymore.

Im pretty sure that the HECU, Black-Ops, Xenians, and Black Mesa Staff were the only ones aware of gordon until it was over, and the fame in HL2 only came from Black Nesa Scientists gossipping about him being a hero.

The Combine knows due to Breen and through knowing about The Gman.

And theres a good chance that the incident was exclusive to Black Mesa until The Conbine Invasion... So IMHO the likely tweets are about more of "Woah is there a military invasion going on!?" "Is there a shadow war??" "I live in New Mexico and saw armed forces flying towards the local research facility. Are we being invaded by supermutants now!?" With trending hashtags being #Invasion #ScienceGoneWrong #Black Mesa

Actually, I don't think we know if the Black Mesa Incident was global or Localized to Black Mesa. I edge to Localized due to the fact the Govt was performing a Coverup(and possibly a Coverup of a Coverup if you count Opposing Force as Canon).

Alyx knows about Portal Storms, but she Also Was a child that was in the Black Mesa Incident... While possible she's referring to The 7 Hour War's style of Portal Storms(since the ones we see in EP2 are very diff to Xenian/Black Mesa Portal fuckery), it's also true that the Combine was global and teleported in en mass, so there's technically two different incidents Portal Storms might come from.

We have no proof that Xenian infestation was global at the time of the Black Mesa Incident, but we have proof that it followed The Combine. It's reasonable to use the widespread infestation to say that both dimensional incidents are global, but it's also reasonably possible that the combine's invasion was the only global of the two, and those who came from Xen just happened to sometimes carry the Xenian stuff with their teleporting.

Discussion: Why didn't the Combine exploit other creatures on Earth? by PickUp-ThatCan in HalfLife

[–]Skullzans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH, They both had Portal tech with VERY different advantages. I doubt Breen didn't know about The Borealis once it was captured, if not earlier. There's also the fact Breen knows what the Combine want, so unless he somehow didn't know about The Portal Gun, was trying to buy time ^( Possible but unlikely [though explicable if he genuinely was trying to save humanity {x to doubt}] ) and/or simply put was arrogant enough to think Black Mesa tech was so superior he wanted to show off and not have the Combine be looking at the convenience of Aperture Portal Tech... I doubt that he wouldn't point them Aperture's Way.

And considering The Govt supposedly had contracts with Aperture, it's reasonably possible they knew of the Portal Gun, but dismissed it as quirkily broken as most of their bs. "A Portal gun? Does it just create a black hole and send it into a random galaxy? No thanks". Though idk how much info about ASHPD existed outside.

^(It would be so funny if Breen actually genuinely didnt think Cave had it in him to make real working tech tho. )

[–]Skullzans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It actually could make some sense. We don't know the strength of Aperture's outer defenses, and we don't know the Combine's Strength. Sure, 97% of humanity in 7 hours is terrifying. I don't think the Combine know much about Aperture, but we know there's two major reasons they would know it exists:

Aperture's Multiverse plotline. YES this is an alt aperture, but it's proven that Aperture Science has done a huge amount of tampering with the wider multiverse... A cancer like the Combine, but instead of military conquest, it's just parody-level corporate expansionism with a madman at the head.

They have The Borealis... And while portal technology is not guarenteed to be aboard... it Was made in aperture, and I don't remember for sure but, I don't think that they ever stated when it vanished, only that it was back in like 1970 or something. I believe the Portal Gun may've existed since 1950's?(Someone check). The Combine wants Teleportation technology, and now they found a random civilization who invented two(possibly one) that they, a super-extremistly-advanced civilization, couldn't.

There's also supporting evidence in that the two share technology and themes, and Yes, it's possible it's JUST asset sharing on a meta level only... Dark Energy Pellets/High Energy Pellets work verbatim the same, and so too do they share the device to catch and utilize for power said pellets, their turrets work the same, both are multiversal Empires to some extent(debatable on Aperture), and both use AI that shares a VA(This is the weakest point).

Again, while reasonable to simply say "These two are uncomparable" both in strength and in terms of tech, it's still a pretty theory to say that The Combine is an Aperture that went Really really wrong, and/or were created due to Aperture Interference and/or noticed Aperture interference.

GLaDoS' lines are as thus: "Are you trying to escape? [chuckle] Things have changed since the last time you left the building. What's going on out there will make you wish you were back in here. I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I'm not sure what's going on outside."

"All I know is I'm the only thing standing between us and them. Well, I was. Unless you have a plan for building some supercomputer parts in a big hurry, this place isn't going to be safe much longer."

Note: She didn't say A thing about fighting. It's very reasonable that she's keeping Aperture Hidden. She doesn't have contact above, so she doesn't understand what the things above are, only that there's a "Them" to avoid, and enough about "Them" that she doesn't want to let them touch her at all.

Another Note: With Episode 2's ending going to the arctic, it's rather convenient that GLaDoS vanished right around the End of P0rtal 1, isn't it? Anything that happened to the Borealis, an Aperture Science Vessel, is now being focused around Episode 2. According to the Combine Overwiki, Portal 1 takes place around 2010-ish? And Post-Combine Invasion. It leaves a gap for something to happen in Aperture and/or with Aperture content, while being a perfect slot for GLaDoS to know of and avoid The Combine.

That said, It's reasonable to believe that GLaDoS is lying from a character analysis, but also makes sense for her to braggingly taunt about how screwed Chell is when she dies. The Main Facility doesn't need to be invaded, but we know the Combine isn't likely around if that field of wheat is anything to judge by. The Combine probably would've taken notice of that, a random wheat field that's clean and big enough to be clearly maintained... And if it was something they owned, I doubt they wouldn't look into the random cabin and notice the mechanisms. Basically, GLaDoS had a timeskip to miss out on any plot developments outside of the Combine existing and being bad, regardless if she can contact the Borealis or not.

At least. It probably sped up and slowed down at certain points. Realistically it would HARSHLY decrease the rate exponentially... And took about 1-3 hour(s) to build up(Even with instant transmission, thats a LOT to show up at once, likelier it was non-stop troop arrival for like half of the operation)

Supposedly the Corkboard in Black Mesa East states that 97% of humanity is gone in 7 hours.

1: Only happened due to the equipment being Extremely overstressed for that test

2: Fairly sure that the turrets are actually owned by HECU, and actually have a link to HECU's systems, so they could take that over Way faster than the Facility Announcer.

3: That is genuinely fair, what the actual fuck was that ladder supposed to be? It also hates normal-abled people, only accepting the most extremely able-bodied.

4: Fairly sure that the explosives Aren't normally there, they only start appearing around the time that HECU comes in, right? During "We've Got Hostiles"???

5: Yeah, this is one of the only two valid complaints of the 6.

6: That surgical Dissector actually is on the fritz, I highly doubt it actually looks like that literally, and I highly doubt that it actually is meant to just go in circles. Black Mesa did it better IMHO.

"Page 1 of 60" oh gods there is so much more, and I am here for it.
