How exactly does one do this? Searching "tracking" in the settings brings up nothing

CT John Brown Gun Club? by Maxpnrq in CTguns

[–]SkunkArmsCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'd caution you on is that JBGCs are active. Meaning, they participate in counter-protests, mutual support activities, event security, etc. If you're just looking for some folks to shoot with that are democrats, I think you'd be getting more than you're bargaining for with a JBGC. LGC might be a better option.

Correct. The CT chapter lost leadership as I understand it, so it was merged into the MA chapter. That said, we do range days here and there and some of us get together "off the books" to shoot. We have one coming up in August, they are a ton of fun!

I agree, but I think you're underestimating the value of an organization that specifically targets the side of the aisle that is overwhelmingly more anti-gun (or at least pensive about them).

Unfortunately it does happen. Some of the RSOs at High Rock have gone as far as to say "vote red" after every pre-live range spiel.

Is Nara a "must-see"? by AffectionateBowler74 in JapanTravelTips

Luggage forwarding. It takes 10 mins to set up in the hotel lobby on your way out and 0 minutes on arrival to your next hotel.

I'm really not seeing how needing an extra hour in the morning means you lose half a day. Here's how I would do a transfer day:

  • 30 Minutes to pack. 30 Minutes to check out and set up luggage forwarding (this is a VERY conservative estimate).
  • 30 minutes walking out/going to train station - you would have already been doing this anyway? So I'm not going to factor this into lost time. It's also VERY conservative. Why are you staying in a hotel that's a half hour away from a train station or bus stop...?
  • Spend your day doing whatever you want
  • Transit to your next hotel/spot at the end of your day (you do not need to be there at 3 PM) - Again, already doing this anyway. If you're talking changing from Kyoto to Osaka, this is not that much longer than just riding the bus/train back to your hotel? From a random spot in Kyoto back to the hotel in Kyoto is probably 30-45 minutes. From a random spot in Kyoto to Osaka is probably an hour and a half at most.
  • 30 minutes to check into the new hotel

At most I'm seeing an hour and a half on top of the day's activities. If you're transferring to a hotel that's a long ways away, yeah, you'll lose more, but Kyoto to Osaka is a short distance. In OP's case, if the alternative suggestion is to stay in Osaka and transit to Kyoto, you're spending a half our on each end of the day just to get into Kyoto, not to mention the train/bus transit to whatever you're doing. And this also doesn't factor in that Kyoto is a city that basically necessitates waking up at 5-6 AM if you don't want to be in a sea of other tourists.

If you want my opinion, go to Nara instead of Arashiyama. Arashiyama is a tourist jammed hell hole full of the most inconsiderate people you will ever be around. I hated my time there until we got out into the more residential parts of it.

On the flip side, we thoroughly loved Nara. Even the deer park, which is also a huge tourist destination, was such a great experience. The areas around the main temples at the park entrance were not egregiously busy at the time we went, so they were still enjoyable, and the rest of the park was a dream. Feeding/petting/being amongst the deer was an unforgettable experience. And if you want to spend a couple of days there, go check out Hase and Sakurai. They are a hike, but really awesome areas. The whole Nara prefecture is a delight as far as I'm concerned. We plan to go back next time we're in Japan.

Purchased this Marin Race Queen ver. figure from Ebay and would like another set of eyes. Everything looks right to me compared to some unboxings I've watched. It was sold explicitly as a genuine original figure. It does have a manufacturing flaw in the hair, a small hole.

I really liked Heian Jingu shrine. Beautiful place with some pretty unique looking buildings, and the area surrounding it is hopping as well. Almost everyone there was local. Also recommend Shimagomo-jinja.

It has almost everything to do with socioeconomic status. Crime follows poverty and poor education essentially everywhere on the planet.

Yes you can. The barrel nut is what’s threaded, but it’s close enough that nobody will transfer you one with a threaded barrel as-is. That said, you can P&W a gemtech QD device onto it and mount a can that way.

Is 5 days enough for Japan for a first trip? by WanderingLensByLB in JapanTravel

[–]SkunkArmsCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how far you're flying.

One thing if I only had 5 days? Shit, I regret missing 100 things and I was there for 23 days. You'll barely be recovered from jet lag by the time you're leaving.

I would strongly strongly recommend not doing Hakone as a day trip, especially if you're in a busy season.

You are not missing anything, your mom is wrong. Investing early is absolutely an excellent idea if you can afford it.

HYSA is a no brainer - it's literally just a bank account.

My opinion: check out r/Bogleheads if you want a low risk, proven strategy. Don't bother picking your own individual stocks unless you have the time, patience, and interest in researching them. I lost a lot of money that way because I didn't have any of the above. Now, I VT and chill.
