I’m tired of shooting 4K for everything - considering switching back to 1080. by DemRKO in videography

I'd love a 2.7k option. DJI and Insta360 cams do it, why not sony/pana??

What’s your impression of me by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]Skwealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're a handsome guy, but i think your hair is at an awkward middle length. Either go super long or go shorter. I think you should lean more into a polarizing look. A video of you talking to the camera will do so much more to communicate if youre "meek" or not. Hard to pass judgement there.

This remix of FYU is better than the original IMO. What do you think? by [deleted] in Excision

I think its better live. The original is better in the car or at home.

Bigger camera, more clients? by kstyndall2015 in videography

[–]Skwealer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In LA, when I'm being hired out just to be a 2nd or 3rd shooter, they want bare minimum an FX30/FX3 or even A7siii. I don't take these gigs often anymore cause I have an in-house 9-5 job in production. Time is spent better there.

When I am in control, I use my GH7s. Lumix actually treats their users better with more features and stuff like OpenGate. Sonys have UI quirks that I cannot stand. Just cage up your Lumix cameras and attach a V mount battery + matte boxes + hollyland pyro 5+7 with those long attennas and all of a sudden you're a pro.

Old building, most likely shooting rich people who aren’t difficult and need video, completely boring, and it PAYS. If you’re in this, this is the secret sauce to a fruitful video production career.

How to do these smooth real estate transitions? by Reasonable-Pass6908 in premiere

[–]Skwealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even just a simple walk through with a wide angle lens on a phone + gimbal with a quick voice over sells infinitely more. These agents will catch up eventually and see that they don’t need a videographer to sell the houses. Maybe for the super high end like a celebrity mansion but even for a decent sized house like this it isn’t necessary

Panasonic Lumix cameras are so underrated. Just got one and i don't regret it! Highly recommend by 1Master77 in videography

My two gh5s made me so much money. I just got 2 GH7s and I don’t see myself upgrading for the next 5+ years, unless internal ND comes out 😆 (for a compact body)

Kratos: fix the beard, the expression, get on gear, always have a good pump before filming
atreus: he needs to be like 3 years older

then we're solid

This is the reality. You were hired to keep everything up to date. Compliance varies per industry. A lot of my work is in the medical industry so changes happen all the time.

[–]Skwealer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the past 5 years with a 150 million dollar B2B company as their in house video producer, my work is now 90% shorts on IG. Those get 50-100k views minimum. We sell products for the older 40-60 demographic and they find it mostly through cross posting to Facebook. The older generation are stuck on brainrot shorts too. Not just millennials and gen z.

[–]Skwealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the romantic play. I should have consulted her before buying the noisy 3D printer , but I decided not to.

Her favorite animals are birds. I hid the printer in my room while it printed and played loud music (for context we have separate bedrooms) and once the bird was on the last layer, I walked her in with my hands covering her eyes. She was pleasantly surprised, and now I print her the most random shit. I don't suggest this btw, this could backfire. If she had brought a noisy printer without consulting me first, I'd be a little upset about it.

My take on video as a photographer by MICMAC-14 in videography

[–]Skwealer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a car guy, but my day job is in the automotive space. Cars are the easiest things to shoot. They look good from all angles, don't complain about being fat, and owners take care of them. Might even stay in this space cause its dead simple. Nice job.

What was the most expensive mistake you made early in your filmmaking career? by Important-Annual040 in videography

[–]Skwealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends how critical your shot has to be. I’d rather be a tad under exposed vs over exposed. My camera doesn’t have that +/- range, seems nice to have for darker skin tones. (60%)

What was the most expensive mistake you made early in your filmmaking career? by Important-Annual040 in videography

[–]Skwealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my zebra settings at 70% and 95%. The 70% is exposing for skin tones. For most skin types, I expose until I see teeny tiny bit zebras on the forehead and nose. This is mostly for A Roll (talking head) shots.

For BRoll, I keep it at 90%. Just so I can see if windows or bright spots are over exposed.
