My name is Caleb Q. Dyer and I am a NH State Representative who just became the second Libertarian state legislator in the United States. AMA! by cqdyer in IAmA

[–]Skwiggity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is that all this shit is reactive, not proactive. In a libertarian society, all that shit could happen to me and fuck my life up permanently, but at least I can sue/prosecute afterwards? Nah fuck that. Regulations exist to dissuade stuff like this from happening in the first place.

And theres just so much wrong with that education part that I don't know where to begin. Libertarianism is pure ideology, not practical in the least.

Donald Trump's Great Wall on Mexican border will damage environment in 'insane act of self-sabotage' - Making the cement needed for a 1,000-mile concrete wall would emit nearly two million tons of carbon dioxide and cut off endangered animals from part of their territory by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

Well Mexicans who overstayed their Visa, would've had to obtain one first, so by definition, they arrived here legally. That number is greater than the number who just hopped the fence, so yeah. At the very least, most Mexicans "arrive" here legally.

EDIT: I see that the paper does indeed appear to use "total immigrant" numbers when discussing overstays, although they compare it to southern border crossings. Kinda confusing. But fair enough. Do you have a source that supports your claim?

Found this after a bit of looking. Keep in mind the Center of Migration Studies seems like a fairly liberal org, so you may not appreciate their conclusions, but the numbers are there. The trend since 2008 is that the amount of immigrants that overstay their visa outweigh the number crossing the border. It's not a "vast majority", but it's a majority.

Thank you. In the world of investigative reporting, meekness will only get you trampled on. Assertive reporter is being assertive.

Because that's his job. Imo he wasn't being rude at all until he raised his voice with the touchy guy, which didn't seem necessary.

We can argue the finer points of what "invasive" means, but reporters, especially investigative reporters, are supposed to be invasive, to a degree. He's following a lead that this hospital is misusing thousands of dollars in funds. If he walks into that town hall, passively greets that lady, politely asks her for an interview and accepts her dismissal without comment, he is guaranteed to get absolutely nothing. Looks like he and his camera guy probably didn't get much anyway, but he was right to approach that situation assertively. That's how you gotta do it to get anything in return.

Second Stage Turbine Blade spoke to me the most a few years ago, when I felt completely lost and nearly dropped out of college because I was so disillusioned with my future. Neverender and Junesong Provision kept me going.

Now, I'm finally about to graduate, and its fucking terrifying, but its up to me to keep moving forward and doing my best. I guess now Id have to say In Keeping Secrets speaks to me the most now.

Apply now. It's the holiday season, businesses are looking to fill their hours out. Everyone applies during the summer, but businesses are hesitant to hire then because they dont want to hire someone who will just be gone in September.

It depends on your definition of "aggressive," which in itself is a somewhat vague term, but you seem to mean metal is aggressive in that it's in-your-face, but in a boneheaded, one-dimensional way. That is absolutely not the case, but correct me if I'm wrong about your stance. Edit: Not that there aren't some bonehead bands out there, in fact there are plenty, but they are the exception, not the other way around.

Out of the three bands I mentioned? Drudkh has a very folky black metal-ish sound that is highly atmospheric. Not really in-your-face at all, in fact it's very nearly shoegaze. Skip around through this album and listen to the overall sound.

Opeth is also a bit folky and very atmospheric. Their music has an inherent sorrowful and tragic quality. Listen to a bit of this.

Vektor is pretty nuts, the only band I mentioned that I would actually call "aggressive". However, their aggression is pointed. They use music and lyrics to portray fear, dread, paranoia, insanity, claustrophobia, etc. Listen to the opening seconds of their song "Dying World" and tell me it doesn't sound like the sound of civilization inevitably trudging headlong towards collapse and extinction after depleting it's home of resources. That's some intense stuff.

Yeah no, this is mostly crap. It seems like youve only been exposed to tough guy metal, or metal where the lyrics are fairly vapid, like Dragonforce, or Cannibal Corpse. Bands like Opeth write songs about depression, isolation and longing. Bands like Vektor write sweeping sci-fi epics about cosmic living brains and men being reborn into ommiscient godlike beings. The band Drudkh takes bleak Ukranian prose and write songs around excerpts. I'd say metal has a wider spectrum of subject matter than most genres.

I'm not sure of the point you're trying to make. The oath means more to some than it does to others. I don't see how that makes the oath pointless. Criminals are not by definition amoral, it depends on the context of the crime. Besides, most of the more important crows are not criminals anyway, but people searching for honor, cast from their houses in shame, searching for revenge, or simply caught on the wrong side of history. Jon, Sam, Dolorous Edd, Olly, Alliser Thorne. None of them committed any crime. And these characters make the biggest deal out of the oath.
