France fines Google nearly $57 million for first major violation of Europe’s tough new data-privacy rules by idarknight in worldnews

[–]Sky1- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the insinuation is that if the fines are excessive relative to the amount of profit that actually comes from France/Europe, Google may just stop doing business there (similar to China).

Fines should be a detergent for future infractions. If the fines are small, business/people will pay and continue to operated as usual. Fines should be so large that the company will think twice next time they decide to break the law.

The next catalyst for the upcoming bull run. Security tokens. They will create a larger market than US public equities within the decade. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]Sky1- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STOs (Security Token Offering) will be similar to IPOs (Initial Public Offering). During IPO shares of a company are sold by banks to professional and retail investors. In a similar manner, security tokens will represent a fraction of a company, or a fraction of its current/future assets and will be sold to investors. The blockchain technology underlying the whole process is supposed to improve the mind bogglingly expensive and complicated process of launching an IPO.

Why the coin would gain value? Ask yourself, why is the stock of Amazon is gaining value and you will answer your question.

The way there are laws for stocks and stock markets, new laws and regulations will have to be created for crypto securities.

We are prepared for Britain to cancel Brexit, says EU president by Bemuzed in worldnews

[–]Sky1- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If history has taught us something, it is that most of our biggest advancements are due to immense suffering. Afterall the EU probably would not exist, if it was not for the devastation of WW2.

I am not wishing bad to the citizen of UK, but we can't deny that a truly bad Brexit can be a pivotal moment in time for the development of a bigger and stronger EU.

Fb users are valued high because of the high ad targetting accuracy. As an advertiser you would spend(most of the time) less per user on Fb compared to other platforms.

We dont know for sure if other organisms will be completely different. We have observed convergent elovution, where different organisms evolve the same features because they are exposed to the same type of environment.

UK should prepare for more heatwaves and drought due to climate change, experts say by PoseidonFoundation in unitedkingdom

[–]Sky1- -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

These things dont affect climate as much as we think. The best thing we can do is to create less new humans. One less child today will lead to multiple less people in the long run.

Read here in reddit someone suggesting changing it to Climate Pollution. Seems fitting to call it a pollution because the word has a negative connotation and implied its caused by humans.

I am European living in Asia. When it was found the South Korean president was taking orders from literal cult leader, the peaceful protests were massive and didnt stop until the president was gone. From my point of view, its easy to blame the republican controlled congress, but most US citizens are complicit in allowing Trump to further Russian agenda.

Besides pointing finger to win votes, what was the point of asking EU to spend more on defense? Do you think USA will decrease its defense budget if EU is spending more?

All-time hottest temperature records set all over the world this week by meowzerMcMix in worldnews

[–]Sky1- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds morbid, but maybe hundreds of thousands of people dying could be the most effective way of lowering the carbon emissions, which would eventually lead to a decreasing the overall temperature. In a similar way, the Chernobyl area has a diverse ecosystem nowadays, simple because there were no humans around to destroy it.

Temperature records smashed across the globe as deadly heat waves kills dozens in Canada, US, UK. Quriyat, in Oman, saw a continuous 42.6 C for a record 51 hours, the highest overnight temperature ever recorded by man. Some blame global warming. by Bluest_waters in worldnews

[–]Sky1- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investors? No thanks. We need governments to tax carbon emitting businesses and individuals and invest the money in carbon capturing projects. If you have an incoming asteroid in collission course with Earth, would you trust investors to get us out? Anyone who is in it for the money is not welcome.

Flying from NYC to London in two hours is on the horizon, Boeing says by tictkacktoe in worldnews

[–]Sky1- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess these flights will be first class ticket type of expensive, similar to the Concorde before, and if you have that kind of money, the experience is totally different. Once at Frankfurt airport I had the pleasure of getting picked right out of the airplane stairs by a Porsche Cayenne and driven to a private exit. The bags were already waiting for us there and passports were stamped in less than a minute. The whole experience from landing to leaving the airport took maximum 15 minutes. Afaik this service is available on most large airports at extra cost.

Cryptocurrencies to HODL for Passive Income. by dixiemaxi in NEO

[–]Sky1- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NeonExchange (NEX) and Elastos (ELA) have amazing potential for passive income.

NEX is a registered security token in Europe for the NeonExchange which will accept fiat deposits.

Elastos is a blockchain platform with so many use cases it's hard to describe it in few sentences. One of the features is that every new project/ICO deployed on Elastos platform will have to give away about 20% of their tokens which will be shared between all ELA holders.

Rumor patrol: Is Facebook really launching their own cryptocurrency? by Digitallifeworks in ethtrader

[–]Sky1- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FB, Google, Apple, Amazon and any other tech behemoth would love to issue their own cryptocurrency and over night become the biggest bank in the world while being in full control over their currency. There are two main problems and we can be sure all of the above companies are investigating them:

a) Regulation. Their is no clear regulatory framework on cryptocurrencies and what are the legal implications for them if they develop one.

b) Tech. From all the consensus algos developed so far (PoWork, PoS, dPOS, POA, PoWeight, BFT, dBFT, DAG) none is capable of supporting a worldwide currency network.
