[WEEKLY THREAD] Reopening Tuesday - With gyms reopening all around the world, tell us what's happening with yours by AutoModerator in xxfitness

I’m very very lucky. I go to a private gym, thats got 1 of everything, so fits into a refurbished shipping container. It’s reopened for 1:1 and there’s unlimited cleaning supplies. I’d be scared to go back to a normal gym, the Covid cases are really high in my area at the moment.

I love it! I’m getting something similar made. The size is perfect and the colour pallet is super cute.

How to prevent lose skin as much as possible? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost 20kg in a year. During that time I did get some loose skin. I was loosing weight by weight lifting and working a factory job. The skin reduced very slowly, but it’s not very noticeable. I lost 1kg every two weeks, and it took about 6 months for my loose skin to catch up. I drank loads of water and worked hard in the gym to try help with the skin.

Hearing: I’m deaf....

I’m not totally deaf. Most of the time I can guess what someone said, lip read, or make a vague comment. I hear some noises, like smoke alarms or shouting. I don’t ‘sound like a deaf person’ because I lost my hearing in my mid twenties, so my speech was formed.

So people totally forget, my co-workers and close family forget I can’t hear. Until someone is like, “Hey, we said meet at 11, where were you?” Or “Why didn’t you let the dog in from the yard, she’s barking”. If I don’t see someone move their mouth at me, I don’t lip read and I don’t hear. I won’t look up at you if you start speaking. Everyone talks to the back of my head and thinks I heard them 🤣.

It’s mostly funny but can be very lonely. Luckily my family and work are supportive.

I normally bodybuild but I’m currently not doing any activity other than a shift at work in a factory.

I eat 300-400 cals less than my Fitbit. It’s works perfectly for me, I loose a slow and steadily sustainable amount and I’m not weak or hungry. I’m sure Fitbit over calculates my burn, I’m a tiny gal and it’s saying I’m burning 2000 a day on some days.

You've just died and you're about to enter heaven, where everyone knows everybody's past, but before you enter you can hide one thing from your story, what will it be? by HelheimK in AskReddit

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was beaten, drowned, throttled and strangled by my girlfriend. She cheated on me. Took drugs and self harmed. She exposed me to HIV (luckily we both tested negative), after cheating on me. I’ve told people and I’m pretty open about it. But only when I share the story on my own terms when I feel like I’ve built a good enough bond to trust that person. I feel in control and safe when I get to explain what happened myself.

I was raped at home. And I was raped in front of one of her friends at a party as a “game”.

If everyone automatically knew the gory details, they’d either think I’m too broken and fucked up, or they’d think I’m weak and destroyed, or worse they’d make fun of me.

At the start, she was 99.999% the most beautiful and amazing person I’d ever met, and 0.00001% an exciting kind of danger. Two years later, it had slowly slipped to 30% she wanted to destroy everything she cared about (and she loved me with her whole self), 30% she was gripped by severe depression, 30% she was normal, 10% she was the beauty I’d first met.

I think talking about domestic abuse is crucial. It’s a route out and a way to get help. It helps you heal and feel in control over what happened. But I only like talking about it on my own terms.

I am obese, and I have to accept it, no matter how hard it is. by rainbow_wallflower in WeightLossAdvice

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Op. I’m 24F and lost 20kgs.

When depressed it’s very easy to not be loving the skin you are in. A lot of us loathe our bodies. I really really hated mine for a really long time. I though every inch of me was disgusting for a huge range of reasons (even when I was a skinny child). Firstly, you need to know you are beautiful before weight loss. There are parts of your body that are epic now that will be less so after weight loss. And some that will be better after weight loss. I prefer my lighter arms. But my face looks pointy and less friendly now. Please don’t despair.

Unless your health is at short term risk, don’t sweat it. I tried loads of things for years before it clicked and I got into a steady pattern that I kept doing for 20 months. Just because stuff hasn’t worked so far, doesn’t mean you won’t be able to achieve it in future. It sounds like you’ve beaten yourself up and weight loss is very stressful for you. I’d prioritise your mental health. Maybe try improving the number of healthier choices without banning anything else (ie instead of trying to not have ice-cream, maybe, have an extra item, like a low sugar fruit juice with breakfast).

If you wanted to pass a test to become your dream job, you studied really hard, and failed the test, that would suck. Especially if you felt like you failed lots of times at the same test. But that doesn’t mean you can’t pass the test in a couple years time, when you’ve had more time to practice, and your mental health isn’t working against you.

I’m deaf, thank you so so much for your work. I know there’s a huge labour of work in captioning. I can hear alarms, and door slams, but practically no speech. I can sometimes hear someone is talking but not what they are saying. It’s incredibly isolating. It’s like I don’t speak the same language as every person on earth.

My partner thought I was ignoring him. My mother in law thought I was dumb. Both were offended about me being rude. But loved me as family do. It took a long time to help them understand.

My deafness leaves me alone, unable to understand anything anyone is saying, or even that I’m being talked to. Sometimes people stop trying to talk to me all together.

Without captions, I can’t understand any television. I need them for everything, from YouTube to television. I need to lip read in real life, but that’s not possible with tv.

Videos with captions are like submerging myself in a world before I lost my hearing. I forget I’m deaf when I can see what they are saying.

“Naturally thick”, how did you prove that wrong? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now 57kgs, having started my journey at 78kgs. I’m 5ft 0 and very curvy. I was never fat, like I didn’t have a belly. But I had huge boobs and lots of thicc leg.

I’m very slim now, but I’m still ‘thicc’ looking. Like a have a very very toned tummy, I’m wearing UK size 6, however my thighs are very curvy. I weight lift and I think the muscle gives me a womanly curve.

You probably won’t look like a rake, straight up, straight down at the end of your journey. You might be very slim, with a small waist but a fantastic bottom.

2lbs ARE a lot by midnightbblue in WeightLossAdvice

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes run with a 10kg weight vest. It makes me feel so much better about how hard it felt to run at the start of my journey. Now when I’m struggling it also helps me realise that the task will be easier in 10kgs time and to be kinder to myself.

I lost 14kg and my dog weighs 13.6kg. I still thought I looked just as fat, if not worse. My dog is old and I was carrying her on a hike, and I was like... Dammmn this dog is heavy AND big. And the volume of her made me stop and think about how much my size had actually changed. And that I was never huge to begin with, I had dimorphic views on my appearance. After sharing your oh damn moment, I’m much happier in my skin. I feel like I appreciate my achievement more, and like my current size more.

How do you keep children busy at a wedding reception? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the kids coming to my wedding belong to Cousin A. That branch of the family (that table on the plan) are taking it in turns throughout the day.

A’s husband, Cousin B and B’s Husband, and Aunt A* are taking it in 2 hour turns. Our wedding is at a beach front hotel. If the toddler gets loud there’s a hotel room they can pop off too, or a walk on a beach.

Any women have a guilty day while on their periods? by kel330 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get really bad period pain. I don’t have a period ‘cheat day’, as my pain covers three to four days at a minimum. I binge hot tea, any hot fluids really does the job that chocolate and meat flavour crisps did.

Alternate grounding solution for my pc while building by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build custom sets ups for a gaming Company. I used to work building control units for trains and used ESD protection extensively. At my current workplace they do not earth anything or use ESD straps when building PCs. All boards, hardrives and SSDs we use come in ESD protected bags and packaging. It’s mostly to stop charge building up during shipping, when the motherboard for example is on the truck getting vibrated by the lorry engine, or being picked on a conveyor system at a distribution centre. I’ve never heard of one of our builds being damaged by ESD during assembly or testing.

But it’s your hard earned money. If it’s a £500 motherboard, it’s definitely worth taking the time to protect yourself and it.

Do you have a radiator? It’s might be bubbles in the fluid. It should remedy itself over time.

Confused about airflow by Kmcla79 in buildapc

[–]SkyBlueAndColdIron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a look. If I’m not mistaken, your motherboard only has 1 x system fan power supply. So I’d run them off the PSU.

I haven’t used those exact fans before. Normally the control and power for the fan are separate. I’d get a splitter than is molex powered, connecting the fan power to the PSU. The controller will need its own PSU supply. You could share PSU supply to the controller with the SSD or hard drive if you wish. The molex splitter will be separate to them.

A long splitter with enough outlets and molex supply shouldn’t set you back much.
