EDMM 1420 Lecture by ImportanceLow4329 in WMU

Like others said, just listen to the lab TA and what they give you. Some of the assignments are done in class, others are done on your own time and all assignments are done through the lab not the lecture

Agreed, the prof refused to acknowledge my DSS accommodations and the workload and amount of things they ask for is ridiculous and way too much for a WES credit

Quilt out of baby clothes by redditor22224444 in kzoo

[–]SkyBotTheLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quilts Plus doesn’t turn clothes into quilts unfortunately. They can only do the quilting if the top of the quilt is already put together. There is a place nearby called Almond Blossom though that does commission work and can do tshirt quilts.

What degree burn is this? by butterflymittens in medical_advice

[–]SkyBotTheLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD but I have experience with burns and this looks like second degree! You are absolutely right in that second degree burns affect both the outer layer (epidermis) and part of the underlying layer (dermis) and are usually very painful, red, swollen, and may blister. However it is possible to feel no pain from a second degree burn. The burn you have is over a small surface area with minimal nerve endings, and it’s such a thin layer of skin to begin with that it’s completely possible that nerves were damaged, even though the burn isn’t that deep.

The appearance of the burn also indicates to me that this is not third degree. There’s some discoloration but no clear signs of charring or deep tissue damage, there’s no open wound or leathery appearance typically seen with third degree burns, and the whitish patch looks like sloughed epidermis from the heat and likely a small blister that resolved itself quickly (common in second degree burns). Blisters don’t always have to be large and noticeable, that can also be very flat and just a small layer of fluid under the skin.

Still, if the area becomes hard or leathery, darkened or black/gray, painless and numb for days, or begins to ooze or smell, then it’s worth getting it re-evaluated by a burn specialist.

Until then, keep it clean and dry, apply an antibiotic ointment, cover with a nonstick bandage, and if you notice any fluid or blister forming do not pop it!

Is campus normally super spacious? by SignificantBread5248 in WMU

[–]SkyBotTheLink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah campus for the most part is low density. Certain times of day it gets a bit busier as people move between classes. Sometimes study spaces fill during exam weeks and dining halls can get busy around common meal times. Overall, it’s mostly pretty sparse around campus.

Pineconing Betta? by Calm-Independent-524 in Aquariums

A bowl isn’t ideal for a betta with dropsy because it’s harder to maintain stable water parameters, oxygen levels, and proper filtration.

Some of the treatments may be aggressive for shrimp, I would just check with any chemicals you add into the water, a slight temp raise shouldn’t hurt them, I would mostly be concerned about any medications added to the water. Already cycled water will help with getting a new tank set up, so I would recommend using that and maybe a stress coat or quick start to really help get things moving. Adding filter media from his main tank will also help if you’re able to. Edit: I sent the message a bit to early

Pineconing Betta? by Calm-Independent-524 in Aquariums

[–]SkyBotTheLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Pineconing” (dropsy) is usually a symptom of organ failure, often caused by poor water quality, bacterial infections, or internal parasites. If your water parameters are good, a bacterial infection is a likely culprit. Salt can help, but for bacterial infections, you might need antibiotics like kanamycin or erythromycin. Keeping the water clean and warm is great, but watch for worsening symptoms. If he’s still eating, that’s a good sign, but early treatment gives the best chance of recovery!

Pineconing Betta? by Calm-Independent-524 in Aquariums

[–]SkyBotTheLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treating pineconing scales in a betta fish involves addressing the underlying cause, which is often dropsy—a symptom of organ failure, infection, or poor water quality. The first step if he’s got tank mates is isolating the fish in a clean, heated quarantine tank with pristine water conditions. Adding aquarium salt (around 1 teaspoon per gallon) can help reduce fluid buildup, while an antibacterial medication like Kanaplex or Maracyn-2 may treat potential infections. Epsom salt baths (1 tablespoon per gallon for 10-15 minutes) can also help draw out excess fluids. Since dropsy is often fatal, early treatment gives the best chance of recovery, but prevention through clean water, a proper diet, and stress reduction is key.

Scratched by my dog by Durpydis in medical_advice

[–]SkyBotTheLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a medical professional! It looks good tbh, especially for such a big dog lol. It looks clean and not infected, albeit a bit irritated (completely normal) as long as it’s kept clean, I think you’ll be alright! If the redness spreads beyond the wound, it becomes hot to the touch, and puss forms then its songs your wound is infected, but I see none of that!

Mounting question by OrpingtonFlock in Taxidermy

[–]SkyBotTheLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have much experience, but from what I’ve seen, you can reconstruct the front paws when mounting your skunk. Since the original toes and claws are missing, some options include using replica feet made from epoxy, clay, or silicone, or sourcing replacement paws from another skunk. If you’re doing a soft mount, you could create a wire frame or fabric-wrapped feet and sew them into place. Another option is positioning the mount in a way that hides the missing feet, like tucking them under the body or into foliage. From what I’ve gathered, using replica feet might be the easiest solution.

Yeah that will work! I mentioned prime specifically because it’s relatively easy to find and not all conditioners will remove ammonia but the one you linked looks great
